    I have been proding at wordpress but is there a setting ofr blocking persistant
    spam attckes from certain IPs ?
    Really it is getting to the stage were I am gettinf 20 to 30 spam comments a day.

    Do you have any kind of pre-moderation on?
    My wordpress account automatically notifies me of any comment with more than 2 links in it, so I get to screen it first. I'm certain you can change the settings or have it that every comment has to be checked before it goes up.
    Do you have it so they need to type in an email address, or verify with a random code that comes up?

    Look around the Wordpress plug-ins sites... Have a look for a random image generator where you have to type the phrase/numbers in the picture into the box to leave a comment (I have one in my blog in my sig if you want to see how it works)

    All the comments are premoded, all require an email address,
    47 of them this morning all spam and 47 emails telling me I have comments.
    Going to see about those anti bot measures, thanks.

    look at akismet. anti-spam plugin for wordpress and also other hosted applications.

    if it takes a few hours for the wordpress api key to be registered, don't worry it happened to me, but worked fine after that.

    Listen,

    I've been blogging at my site http://www.avalon5.com for nearly a year now and I used to get spammed until I installed two plugins

    1) Spam Karma 2

    2) Bad Bahavior

    If you go to the wordpress.org site and search for these plugins (or even use google) you will find the home page address. They are excellent, and I can't think of a single instance where spam has got through my defences since I installed these.

    If you get into any trouble or need more advice on the install/config etc. just drop by my site and get in touch. I'd be glad to help you out.
