myself and some friends will be spending some time in slovakia this summer. wondering if anyone has been? bratislava in particular. curious about the nightlife, the city in general. we're going to be there for about 6 days/nights (end of an inter railing trip) and don't want to get bored or anything! thanks :)

I'm hoping to go at during inter railing this summer as well, all I know is that it is dirt cheap, a friend was there and seemingly a beer is 35cent, vodka is 50cent and a sandwich is about 70cent, so it sounds good!

I was there for about 6 days during an interrailing trip. Travelled around Italy and most of central Europe and Bratislava was my favourite city. I don't remember it being as cheap as lochie suggests, I think beer was about €1 a pint. Not as cheap as beer in Prague but hey, it's still €1 a pint. Due to one of the group having lived in Bratislava before and his old babysitter and her boyfriend showing us around we knew the places to go. I don't know if this is the reason we found it to be such a good city or if it is such a good city. It's not very big, alot of very nice bars and restaraunts in the city centre in an area which the locals call broadway. Spent a day at this artificial lake on the outskirts of the city which I'd highly reccommend.

However I don't remember doing all that much in Bratislava, we just chilled there. Very nice city to do that in.

I didn't think much of Bratislava myself. If you're into any outdoor activities I suggest going to Stary Smokavic in the Tatras Mountains. Its a great little town and cheap as chips. We went mountain climbing, downhill mountain biking and white water rafting there. There's a cheesy nightclub in the town that is a bit of craic. It made a great change of scenery when we were inter-railing cause its easy to get sick of the cities.
