Help with installing a headset!

Bought a sennheiser headset today and just signed up for the blueface trial but can't get the microphone part of the headset to operate :o
I have an audigy 2 zs sound card connected with analog cables to logitech z-680 speakers. The speakers have a control panel which has 2 jacks on the front, 1 for headphones and the other for auxilary-in. I've connected the headset to it and in my sound control panel I've set the auxilary in as the record setting. No joy! I've also tried all the other settings, midi, microphone, wave, etc but none of them work.
My PC is not easy to get at the back of so I'm left with a problem. I don't want to have to somehow get at the back of my PC everytime I want to make a call and detach the speaker cables so that I can connect the headset to the microphone jack and one of the speaker jacks.
Is there a way to solve this, surely the auxilary-in of the speaker control panel should work?
