Yeah i've had some issues connecting and its kinda wierd... looks more like a hang... if it takes more than 3/4 mins i restart and try to reconnect and it connects straight away...

    BF2 issue i'd say ??

ok did u install bf2, patch to 1.12, then install sf2 and reinstall patch 1.12?

Cos that's what u need to do afaik. You need to reapply the patch after installed sf2.

prehaps the ports that gamespy server browser uses are not open?

Stupid question, but have you checked all your internet filters?

Also, I get warnings from my firewall that 'remote whatevers are trying to access my computer' and I have to permit BF2.exe, then I get a list of servers, so it could be something like that either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,285 ✭✭✭TheHairyFairy

Also when searching for servers clear all filters and update server list in its entirity.

at moment l have firewall down to lowest settings and allow incomming and outgoing for bf2 and access to all ports, even shut down anirus and firewall, still same

by gamespy browser i meant the list of servers that's displayed when you click on multiplayer menu button. Afaik, it uses gamespy servers to get the list of servers available. Correct me if I'm wrong.....

I meant the standalone gamespy app that comes with BF2, I don’t know where the ingame browser get its server information from, I have only used the ingame browser once and it annoyed me so much that I actively looked for an alternative

Have you checked the internet filters, in the multiplayer section beneath where the list of servers should be?

Or that you have a wireless connection from your PC to a DSL modem or what?

I play BF2 over IBB with no probs, as do many others.

Just use one of those alternative browsers!!!
The ingame bf2 browser is the worst pile of crap ever. You`d swear EA never made an internet game b4...

If you get the list of servers and change a filter, the entire list disappears. If you get the list of servers and press "update servers" again, the entire list disappears. You can`t even add a server by ip, you can only connect. And when your list disappears you have to quit the game and log in again!

Such a heap of sh1te, I`m so sick of restarting bf2 I deleted all the intros and turned off the crap music, which makes it just about bearable.

As someone already told you, could you try another browser please to see if it works?

The All Seeing Eye is a free download and should list the 5000+ servers even if the gamespy ports are closed.

KELTICKNIGHTT, sorry but I get the impression that you believe that if the browser was working then you wouldn't have any more problems.

In fact, the server browser is often the biggest problem with BF2 players. I believe that most of us now have our fav savers and don't use the browser anymore.

When I want to search for ranked servers, with a ping of < 100 I often get a response of about 12 servers but I get 100+ in ASE which for me is my default BF2 browser.

There is a way of course of using ASE and being able to log in auto to a server without having to login first. The solution is in this forum somewhere...
