    hi I bought a 2nd hand laptop as a fixer-upper, it has no hdd and nothing si coming up on the screen. It powers up all right but thats it.

    Is there anyway to determine what the problem is?

    LOL, how much did you pay for this? Fixing laptops, especially old ones is hard and normally very expensive. You would have to take it to a specialist.

    If there is no HDD you won't see much coming up on screen, cept for the bios and if that isn't coming up you may have a display problem. If you don't see ANYTHING on screen when you boot up plug a monitor into the laptop and boot up. If you can see the bios working away then there is a problem with your laptop screen. It could be numerous things such as the current invertor module the LCD itself or I've seen in some case's just the plug connecting the screen to the motherboard on the laptop has slipped off after a drop etc..

    If your looking for parts ebay is always a good start. I've repaired a few laptops and there is always parts out there its just a matter of finding them at a good price :D
