what i want to do is change the format from several .vob files into a single .bin or .avi file.
i'm trying to play the dvd on my pc. i've tried WMP, power dvd, vlc, winamp and divx players and none of them will play it properly. i used dvd shrink and can play the 'vob files, but they are mostly 1mb in size and as it's a music dvd this is quite annoying as i have to keep clicking on the next file to keep watching.

what i'm looking for is something that will transfer the 'vob files into a single playable file.

note: idiot guide would be appreciated.

No solution here, but I had a similar problem where no player would play a DVD from a USB dvd player - except VLC player.

What are you trying to do?
DVD decrypter doesn't convert files into avi, all it does is copy the files on to the PC with the bonus of stripping region and copy control.

If you just want to copy the disc to a hard drive to watch it from the PC then use ISO Read mode. You will then have to use a virtual drive program (I use Nero ImageDrive but there are other free ones) to mount the ISO image file, then it will be watchable in PowerDVD

A program such as EasyDIVX or 1click DVD to Divx Xvid AVI will convert your VOB files to AVI. It will take a while though as re-encoding will be processor intensive.

    edit:
Guides can be found on doom9.org, digital-digest.com, divx-digest.com, videohelp.com and mny other sites.

basically all i want to do is watch the damn thing.
my dvd player is on the blink so i can't watch it on that.
i just want to try to convert it to something that will play on my pc. .avi and.bin were just suggestions. i'll take anything. xvid or whatever.

pc idiot here. is nero imagedrive free? i have nero burning rom, but that won't open it. don't have a dvd burner just a cd burner. even something to extract the audio files so that i can listen to the songs would suffice.

do you have an ifo file in there with the vobs?
open that with the dvd player program on your pc.

    should be fine then

You have a dvd drive on your pc and you just want to play the DVD?

Forget decoding, rencoding - just use DVD playing software (normally comes with the drive) to watch it. PowerDVD or WinDVD or one of those will allow it.

    Media Player Classic.

select all the files in reverse order and MPC will play the dvd as normal.

also think plain dvd player sw will play dvd movies from the hdd.

didn't work either. thanks to all for the input, but i think my best bet is to go with jor_el's idea.

What happens when you try to play it normally via WinDVD or same?

    don't have a dvd burner.

[QUOTE-ShiverinEskimo] What happens when you try to play it normally via WinDVD or same?[/QUOTE]
it plays as if the disc is damaged. not scratched or anything. it doesn't freeze. it just kind of jumps from frame to frame and the sound is crackly.
all i can think of is that i'm missing some sort of codec or something or my pc just doesn't have the power required to play dvd's.
here's a short sound clip to give you an idea of what it sounds like.

Sounds like the start of U2's Vertigo DVD right? :)

So basiclly you just want to create a single avi file which all the dvd tracks play sequentially?

Do you know what kinda cpu you have? (mhz)

Well if you've ripped it to your hard drive using DVD decryptor then you should be able to play it using WinDVD, just select open DVD from folder and browse to the video_ts folder. If it doesn't play it properly then DVD decrypter didn't rip it properly. Perhaps there was scratches on the disk?

that worked fine. i just wanted to get it to a single file. .avi or .bin would suffice.

download the kazaa lite media codec pack. the free one - it takes a bit of googling. install it but you must check that the cyberlink dvd codec is installed. then you can use media player for dvds
