Massive memory usage

Quick one.... Occasionally I notice that Spysweeper is using 120MB Ram and roughly equal amount of swap when just in normal operation in the background. Firefox sometimes has this problem too. This happens both independently of each other and sometimes at same time. So we're talking 500MB sometimes taken up by just these programs...

This has to be a glitch or something... but is there a underlying problem!!!!

Yeah - nowadays programs/modules eat memory 'because it's there', rather than being efficient, as in days of core.

Note that I included a question mark!

Your situation may not be caused by 'bloat'.

I've noticed as well Firefox eats into my memory for some reason. Don't have a problem with anything else, just Firefox...

Firefox has an option to limit memory usage, otherwise it uses any avaliable memory. Since this may also use swap file I'm not sure how much to limit it to.

    eg: for 64MB limit

    about:config
    Keyname value
    browser.cache.memory.capacity 65536
