We've always used MS Outlook for our our email. It's a bit beefy but generally it does what we need. But...

Can anyone recommend an email client that might do the following:
    1. Can use a local and network copy of a mail file. No fancy server just a network copy which can be synchronised.
    2. More that one user can use the same mail file/store on the network.
    3. It can use links to sent mail attachments rather than adding the actual attachments to the mail file.
Along with the general features available in any email app.

Also i'd like to get some DVD file backup software. Something that checks for any new/changed files on the harddrive and backs them up to the DVD disk.

    Thanks

Im not 100% sure if it does what your looking for, but MoZilla Thunderbird is a great app. It might be worth looking into.

Any ideas on simple backup software that would copy any new files to DVD?

Just to clarify - can you not achieve 1,2 and 3 with MS Outlook? I'm certain 1 and 3 are possible (unless I misunderstand you) and 2 is possible by giving multiple users access to the same mailbox.
