Costa Brava holiday

Just after booking a mobile home for a week and a half at a Costa Brava campsite for end of June, flying with Iberia into Barcelona. Campsite is called Castell Montgri.

Got stung a bit for flights, should have booked before Xmas for half the price  .

Bit off the beaten track but hopefully not too quite or too busy :) .

Anyone ever been there? Any comments? What would it be like for 2 youngsters (3 and 5)?

Would you recommend hiring out a car - would be handy for day tripping, etc.? Any good places to visit in the area?

Camping Castell Montgri is in Estartit, about 100kms from Barcelona, up the coast towards France. Your best bet, with two small kids in tow, would be to get a rental car at the airport, and drive up. Expect to pay 7/8 Euro in tolls, if using the motorway.
Estartit is small and pretty. The campsite is located on the entrance road to the town, and the seafront is 15/20 mins. walk from there.
The Medes Islands are a short distance offshore, and glass bottom boat trips can be taken from the harbour, to see the underwater life around them.
There's miles of flat land, adjacent to Estartit. It's crossed by a network of quiet country roads, and tracks, and is suitable for cycling. Rent adult bikes, with kiddie seats on the back, for local touring.
If you have a car, trips back down the coast(Palafrugell and on), inland to Gerona, and up to Figueres(the Salvador Dali museum) are worthwhile.
Hope the above is of help!

Haven't cycled since my student days, my quads could do with the exercise!

    Thanks for the advice ;)

    Hi
I was a Budget Travel Rep in Estartit for a Summer. Lovely place for a family holiday. Fantastic Beach miles and miles of sand. There should be a good Irish contingent around because of BT. One hotel that BT use has excellent entertainment in the nights for familys. The staff do the Rocky horror show etc and the BT kids do a Greece lightening play on a Friday night.
Been a while since I've been there sorry but the hotel is only about 10 minutes walk from the campsite and its beside a dirt soccer field, where there is a lot of hotels. You'l be passing it on way to beach I think.
You should fly into Girona with Ryanair its the closest airport. You might be able to find more info in the BT brocher.
    Enjoy

Sadly, Budget Travel no longer do Estartit as a destination, more's the pity! I personally would like to see it feature again. Maybe they got bad feedback, e.g. too quiet, not many Irish there. Or, possibly, it's just not profitable.
By the same token, I'd like to see Rhetymnon and Chania feature as destinations in Crete(another favourite).
