Has any one got any idea what a night in the mater private costs.

Unfortunatly I am due to spend a night there (no procedure, just observation) and I have just been told that my VHI won't cover it, my old plan did, but when I changed jobs I was put on another plan (Company Plus) which does not cover the Mater private. I have waited 18months + about 8 consultant visits for this night and I will just have to pay for it.

I am waiting for a call back from my specialist's office to give them the good news, the only cost I have so far is that the cost (assuming my VHI covers) is €220 for the night.

However I assume any blood tests etc will be charged extra and at a pretty penny as well .. like making international calls from the waldorf !!

Can they give a breakdown of costs before I am addmitted?

Afaik you can claim tax relief on medical expenses like that? At least that might take some of the sting out of it.

you can get 20% of anything you pay, refunded by filing a med1 form for the tax year 2006. You can also claim for the costs of GP Visits and other medical, out of pocket expenses. See the Claims and entitlements section at www.revenue.ie

If you need help filing in your forms, or finding out what your entitled to you should consult a registered tax agent. You can look one up in the phone book. My parents both use Celbridge Taxation Services (www.jackiekiely.com)

I am sure the mater private can give you some kind of price list, but they wont be able to fully anticipate what investigations and procedures you will undergoe until your doctor orders them. You could get a fair idea though.
