gear problems with punto

    :confused: :i have a 98 fiat punto and i am finding it hard to get it into 1st and 2nd gear .i had a new clutch fitted last year and hoping its not this any suggestions

    depending on what the problem is, if it's a high mileage car and the syncro is a bit worn, a light blip of the throttle as you change gears will help.
    It's a pain I know but I had a car syncro was gone on second gear, so a light revving was needed to overcome the problem.
    If the clutch is new and ok, it may just be a worn or badly adjusted gear selector mechanism.
    Possibly bent during the clutch change.

    syncromesh goes in lots of Fiats, 1st and 2nd usually affected,

    but it would be worthwhile to insure there is sufficient oil in the box at any rate. Synchros do not work well in the absense of oil.
    may also be wear in the linkages/joints between your hand and the box.
