Hi all. I'm a LIT graduate (Bachelor of Arts in Design in Visual Communications 1996) and I feel compelled to point out that their website is awful.

    http://www.lit.ie/

    1. For a college with a graphic design course it looks dreadful - it has the aesthetic appeal of something nailed together in a shed.

    2. This is a college which runs computer science courses and yet;

    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://www.lit.ie/

    oh dear, oh dear

Its really is a crap site you think they could run a competition for designing a new site, between the IT and the art students you could have a really good website. They have a person dedicated to looking after the website but she doesnt seem to be doing very much. Also other 3rd level websites are sub contracted out such as the new UL website, but they have a larger budget for these things.

thought i was the only one..its crap especially the students union site www.litsu.ie, id say it was last updated in 1980 coz there is nothing on it... compared to other ITs its pure sh!t,it just shows that the students union really does nothing!!

I helped to update the LITSU website and that was 4 years ago and nothing has changed since the students there should really get in the face of the SU because of it it does nothing to attract new students

It does the job doesn't it? What do you want a flash site or something? It's simple and loads fast. What's the problem? They should really do something with the student union site though!

I think a part of the problem is that they just changed the Logo in the past year, that Red gunshot looking thing in the middle has replaced a crest, and the bright red is screaming for suporting colours and alot more white space all around.

What are your thoughts on the logo by the way?

i think the logo is pretty badass. but on the design issue, i don't care if looks crap if it easy to find the info you want, and it ain't.
i have googled the lit site a couple of times previously to find stuff thats hidden in its depths.
but most college sites are crap, they are setup by the i.t. dept and then actively ignored for years.

I think the information is going to get streamlined goodo in the next year or so, that 'Moodle' thing mentioned on the bottom of the quick links, was only introduced this year and is supposed to take over alot of the 'administration/information' duties. Its supposed to be more user friendly then the Elit.

Well they just made some improvements, must have heard ya :D

improvements may not have the word i would have chosen to describe what they have done. i think the banner looks sh1t. facilities is the same old crap. the only big change i see is the student life page, i like what they have done there.

i love the picture for built environment on the main page. it really sums up what that school is all about: sitting on your arse waiting for the lecturer to show up. somebody must have told them about us ;p

I am also an LIT Alumni and I went on to their website yesterday to contact wired fm and the students union.

    Wired fm's email doesn't work
    LITSU's email doesn't work
    The Comments form doesn't work
The method for reporting theses problems to the administrator doesn't work
The administrator's email addy doesn't work!

Its madness... I eventually got my message through by emailing info@lit.ie in blind hope and it worked! The secretary replied today and advised me she has forwarded my message.

For an "Institute of Technology" the website cannot be excused IMO

as far as i know the SU are working on a new website, one of my friends was taking photo's for it.

thw website is typical LIT. They dont get the students input on anything, the art and graphic design students should really be allowd to do more

they have upgraded to stumail system to what appears to be office11 (not fully certain of that), but i'm not liking it. preferred the old system.
