is it true that most of the Dublin Minor and Kilmacud Crokes feile u14 winners came from traditional rugby playin schools such as Blackrock and Gonzaga ? If this is true it must prove that hurling is epanding in private schools , and the future of Dublin hurling should look up !!

Just because a private school wins a tournament means nothing more than if Ballymun CBS (if that exists) won it!

I can see your point... kind of, I think:confused:

'think' the point is that there are more young hurlers up and coming if the private schools are playing.

    I think.

2005 was a good year for Dublin hurling - particluarly at underage - as a Dub of 30 years i can never remeber a serious senior team - hopefully future augers well . Someone told me that the Crokes u14 and the Dublin minors were made up mainly from kids from Blackrock and Gonzaga - when i played (long time ago !) we were all from traditional "non rugby playin/private" schools - if it produces a better team long term - not compaining !.

Just because the lads go to Gonzaga and Rock doesnt mean they play hurling in those schools. Certainly it used to be the case that hurling (or gaelic football) was not allowed in those schools - I havent got a clue what the position is now.

Im not sure if its banned or not, but I lived with a Gonzaga pupil in college last year who is well able to use a hurley, never heard it was banned. Be awful stupid to ban any sport in fairness, surely those schools should just encourage rugby if its their ethos, and still allow hurling, gaelic and soccer to go on in the background.
