Looking to buy a basic bog standard pc for the parents and sister. All its needed for is word processing and internet access. No monitor etc required. Dell's cheapest is the D1100 at €349 but can you buy from dell without a monitor?

Is there anywhere else besides Dell to buy one?

dell is so cheap you are basically getting a free PC with the price of a monitor at that level. take the monitor and sell it on?

a 17" crt is only worth about €50 and noone really wants them anymore. not worth the hassle of getting one. if it was a lcd obviously i wouldnt be complaining.

Ask them for quote without monitor - they'll generally try their best.

    No they don't.
Asked them yesterday for quote on a system costing 525 Euro to exclude
the monitor and they gave me just over 50% of the cost of the monitor off!
Wasn't expecting the whole amount but something a bit better then that.
Was going to ask them would they sell just the monitor to me for the price they were allowing me, but thought better of it.

They flog 1100's to business accounts without screen for around €300 inclusive, so the CRT's still only worth about €50. They are however doing 1100's with a 17" panel 512mb and 160Gb drive for under €470 including VAT and delivery, so not a bad deal if you can order through a company(presuming Dell are tight on such things).

generally they have strict builds that they have to keep to, juust changing the different options and upgrades etc etc. The base build would include the monitor. Just ask them to investigate and they'll prob be able to pull out one of the business ones.
