Just looking for some advice regarding the colour of eyeshadows that I should wear. My eyes are a blue-green colour, and I've fair complexion with freckles and medium-brown hair. My problem is that I nearly always tend to go for blue/green/turquoise tones and I'd like a change... I can carry off beige/cream coloured clothes quite well, but would I be able to wear eyeshadows from the brown family?! Or are there any hard and fast rules that I should follow with regards to colour? Perhaps my speciallity eye make-up combo of a pale summer green base topped with a forest green over the lid and metallic turquoise dotted over the tear duct will forever remain my trademark :o

    thanks!

I've blue eyes, brown hair, pale skin
When I was asking a person in BT what eyeshadow etc to wear, she gave me navy liquid eyeliner and pale, pale pink eyeshadow. Looks great, though I wouldn't have picked it in a million years.
The rest of the time, brown is what suits me best. And a sparkly kind of black, not applied too heavily.
    So that's what I'd advise.

Now if I could just find a delicate rose/pinky rose coloured eyeshadow, I'd be set...

    are you the mirror?!

ahem! cheers, will try that one! don't know where you'll get the colour you're looking for though, as I've never searched for it. But maybe a counter in Roches might have something - those counters have the widest variety of eyeshadow colours that I've seen, albeit on the more expensive side.

Heh, I actually have freckles too. That's funny.

Roches eh...I usually go to BT. I don't buy makeup very often  so I can afford to go in there once in a blue moon. Will try roches though if I'm ever near one...

If you want a wide range of eyeshadows go to mac in brown thomas...it's expensive but they quite litreally have every colour.
Lady Mc Beth. I'd say gold blended in with a little brown would really suit you, you could go for the whole "smokey" look with that or just keep it natural. That and navy or black.

Do you have to have an appointment with mac..or will they let you try the eyeshadow if its not too busy?

Well...you see I'm a cheeky broke freeloader so what I do is I go in there whenever (busy or not) and just try on the eye shadows...the girls/guys in there really don't mind. If you're feelin brave you could also ask them for a make up brush to do it. Sometimes they're nice and they share :p
Or if you actually look like you are gonna buy something and it's not too busy just tell one of the assistants that you want a new eyeshadow, you're not sure what colour to pick, have they any advice, would they be able to show you how to put it on ? Add a big smile and they normally agree.Free eyeshadow makeover whoot!
They're quite nice people in there!!

Ok, the general rule (which can be broken) about choosing colours is :

Blue eyes: Greens, Purples, Browns and Golds
Green eyes: Pastel Blue, Navy, silver, Brown
Brown Eyes: Striking colours like Purples, Blues, Pinks, Golds. You can carry off most colours.

You can wear the same colour as your eye colouring but the colours mentioned above will enhance the colour of your eyes and make them more blue/green/hazel.

Go into MAC and try out the colours. If they are too busy to apply it, ask for a brush and do it yourself!

To the OP, there's a gorgeous MAC shadow called 'Woodwinked', that anyone who puts it on falls in love with it (apart from one or two freaks). I'd say it would look really nice. Actually its lovely with any eye colouring. If you wanna mix a dark brown in with it, 'Mulch' or 'Espresso' are good colours. They are expensive but they are highly pigmented so the colour will last all day.

Hey Lady M, get yourself down to a DIY store or any store that stocks paint. Get yourself a colour wheel, they cost about 50c. Now check out the colour of your eyes on the wheel, or what most closely matches them. Then look what colours are directly opposite on the wheel. THESE are the colours that will suit you...try it girl, you won't believe it!! Try experimenting with red-based colours (sounds mad I know, but looks great) and golds/browns.....these will bring out the natural colour in your eyes. MAC do a GORGEOUS colour called Amber Lights Frost A65....try it!!! Ooooh, let me know how you get on!!!! :p

thanks for all the tips!! looks like I'll be saving my pennies for some of those MAC shadows that have been suggested, but definitely worth a try!!

i have grey/blue eyes, they're big, so i like to highlight them..unfortunatley i cant really apply eyeshadow properly, i can do mascara and eyeliner..but my friend was a beautician, and when i get the chance i get her to do my eyeshadow, she uses grey/black, with white on the browbone, it looks amazing when its done!
