About to get a 360, and heard alot after the US release about overheating issues. Have many people here on boards experienced the same, or is it just isolated cases ?

    thx

think this was a US issue, haven't heard any reports of Irish ones overheating. They do be piping hot after a marathon session though, doesn't bother me too much

I've heard of a guy having some probs with overheating. The lads in a local games store (where I got my 360) asked me if I had any probs. They said a customer of theirs ended up installing his own more powerful fan to sort the issue....!

Don't let that put you off getting a 360 though. They're really very good indeed. Just keep your receipt and you'll have no worries either way.

    Hi,

The overheating / crashing issues are real but rare - things get a little exaggerated on the net.

That said, I did have issues with mine. I called MS Customer Support, they picked it up and I had a new one back within 5 days.

Great console so far, just waiting for more games ;)

It wouldnt be anything to do with people storing their xboxes in a fairly enclosed area as opposed to out in the open on the floor of your sitting room etc?

    Hi,

Probably not, but good air circulation helps.

The funny thing about my Xbox 360 overheating was that it sits on a wooden floor with nothing near it. The room itself also gets quite cold in the evenings (which is when I would play) so I couldn't understand why it was crashing at first

Basically, the issue is with the production quality of the system - some are just going to overheat due to defects. This often happens when new consoles are first released (Sony PS2 for example). I was just unlucky ;)

I don't have an xbox 360, let me start by saying that.
Wasn't it the power source that was overheating?
Do you think 230v's here rather than 110v of americas would make any difference to it?

    Hi,

I read about the power supply problems too - but when you think about it, unless smoke starts coming out of the power supply, how are you supposed to know if there's a problems with it? It does get warm, but not that hot really. The console itself gets warmer ;)

(for reference - the Xbox 360 power supply is approx. a times bigger than an average Dell laptop power supply).

For me, the supposed over heating meant that games would crash after a minutes play. On restarting the console, you would see the Xbox 360 boot logo then an error message would appear, "E71", which seems to suggest a thermal issues inside the Xbox 360 itself. Also, while on the phone to MS Customer Support they made no mention of having to send back the power supply, just the Xbox 360 unit itself, as they do know what the error code means.
