Does anyone know what you are entitled to after you are made redundant? What I mean is, can you get tax back or claim PRSI? Can your payment protection on mortgages and loans be used if you are made redundant? Any other useful information that our good old government doesn't tell us??

What are they obliged to tell you? Have you no ability to ring a) the tax office and b) your banks?

Having just gone through a redudancy situation before christmas ...have found that if the company arent being helpful alot of the info you need will have to be sourced by yourself!

Check out the www.entemp.ie website which is the depart of trade and enterprise website as they have a fairly comprehensive redundancy section (as does Oasis.gov) also www.askaboutmoney.com has a careers/employment board and if you do a search there for redundancy you'll get alot of info!

Without knowing whether you just got statutory redundancy or whether there was a bonus package put together its hard to say. If you got more than the statutory then you are entitled to a once off €5k tax credit against the lump sum - again contact revenue.

You should get back tax as well for the unused credits in the year.

As for payment protection on the mortgage normally this is applied for from the bank on a monthly basis but again they can tell you mroe on that.

You'd also be entitled to unemployment benefit which is backdated.

And just meant to say, depending at what stage your at in the redundancy claim you can also email or make an appointment to talk to the dept of trade and enteprise as they have an employment rights
section and I found them to be very helpful....good luck and while it seems stressful now, you'll come out the other side and in my case all the better for it in a funny kind of way!
