    Hi There,
Here is the building picture of my latest project...

The model is for a French Meeting called Projet Age d'Or (The Golden Age Project).
All dimensions are scale (no cheating here :p ! ) and the is build at 95% of depron (3 and 6 mm) and 5% of wood... Good for the forest ! :)
I've built the heavier version to fly outdoor, but this model can be easly fly indoor using rudder and elevator (mine is Ailerons / elevator... a bit heavier because of all the aileron's linkage etc etc...)

The plan can be found Here
    Pdf format, non tiled.
    Let's start !

    Fuselage :
Nothing really difficult here.. The 2 flancs are made with 3mm depron... Just take care, there is a right and a left... ...4mm Balsa strips all around to reinforce.

    Bohemia_mCjAlDIfBc_Baguettes_flancs.jpg

6mm depron is then used to add more surface to glue the lower wing :
    Bohemia_mCjFtqXWmo_Assises_aile.jpg

Then, the formers (2 half) in 6mm depron are applied :
    Bohemia_mCjGHS4GgO_Couples.jpg
    Bohemia_mCjLkoGq0b_montage_fuselage.jpg

The top formers are joint with a 4mm balsa strip, and will be used later to roll the 3mm depron sheet to form the top of the front fuselage.
Now it's time to glue the rear fuselage together and taking care that the fuselage don't do a "banana" here.
2 4mm balsa strips were used to reinforce the half section of the rear fuselage :
    Bohemia_mCjPL73FRz_baguettes_renfort.jpg

Time to finish the front fuselage, but how to roll the depron ? Very easy..Take a pen and a ruler and do stripes with moderate force in the depron with the pen with regular intervals... Ok, not clear here... A picture will give you the idea.. :p
    Bohemia_mCjTJZ7B00_Sillon_capotage.jpg
Then, you just have to put this sheet of depron on the front formers to create your top fuselage... Very easy with a third hand and 3 kilometers of tape !

    Bohemia_mCjWoG7vQ1_Vue_interieure.jpg

    ELEVATOR / RUDDER

Nothing special here... Built in 3mm depron, only the elavator used 3mm balsa strips reinforcements :

    WINGS
Really easy, and built with the "Jamet" method... The wings are made with a top skin made of 3mm depron and half ribs to keep the curves and profile. Ribs are made with 6mm depron...A carbon rod is then used as a wing spar.
Very easy... both wings were made in 30 mins !

    Bohemia_mCkGNhibfn_Intrados.jpg

The cabane is simply made with...wood spoon stolen form the office ! :D
    Bohemia_mCkPSCXQ6V_Mes_touillettes.jpg

They are glued to the side fuselage using the plan as a template.
Now, you can put the wing in place, have a beer and proudly watch your job !

The wooden spoons are glued to the top ribs of the top wing.

The struts are made with 10x5 balsa strips, and once again, the plan is used as a template to have the good incidence. The stripes are glued to the ribs (top and bottom... Very easy !

    LANDING GEAR :
Made with 1.5 mm piano wire. No solder used here, but glued with sewing thread... Very strong and light ! Must be tried !
    Bohemia_soudure_cap.jpg

The wheels are made using old ugly GWS wheels... A 3mm depron roundel is then glued in place to simulate the wheel cover.
    Bohemia_roue.jpg

The motor I'll use for outdoor will be the GWS "D" and a 10*4.7 with 3 lipos.
    Bohemia_moteur.jpg
    Bohemia_moteur_2.jpg

But a small brushless can be used here aswell.

    FINISHING.
The dummy motor is fully made with 6mm depron and paint.
    Bohemia_faux_moteur.jpg
The paint used is the Humbrol for static model dulued at 40 %... That give the "old effect" touch !
The lettering is made with... Permanent pen ! No paint job here and that do the trick !

And that's it.. It haven't flown yet due to bad weather over here... but that will be soon hopefully. I'll keep you posted anyway !

    Hi,
I am not well up on flight material but you could try Green Hobby and Model

They are in Harolds Cross Dublin.;)

Yes depron is available from Green Hobby, in big sheets of 3mm and 6mm.

There are free plans on their website for making two different types of depron planes.

One using heated and folded depron Flying WIng.
The other using flat plate depron with transparency on the outside for added strength , rigidity and colour scheme, Focke Wulf 190D.

Looping Fred's thread and the pics are invaluable in getting started with this material for making models

    Hmm,
    Interesting thread thanks.
So where can we get large blocks of blue foam or similar for carving models out of with heated "wire knives" and foam cutters?

I've been looking at some plans and making them out of foam instead of the time consuming sheet play/balsa is very appealing to me. I dont have much patience.

Add to that some plans for a home-build stepper motor wire cutter and the possibilites of producing 2 or even more models at once is interesting :)

    Blocks of foam?
