As i was sitting contemplating being finished exams, i thought of a good idea*
Was looking round the IAAA site and thought why not try and organise a competition between schools and colleges?
Sort out what level the school is at generally and find college archers to match them.
It would give people in school a taste of Intervarsity Archery and could be good for sport as it could increase communication between schools and college Whats the worst that could happen?**
    Any ideas or Views??

    *Probably not good idea

We did that last year in Galway and it was a good success. I will invite 2 teams from the schools to the GMIT shoot again this year (If GMIT have the room).

But this year we run it with our rules.

If a school archer has got 400 on the 60cm face they shoot 40cm..
Or if they have competed in an IAAA competition and shot 40cm then there staying on 40cm.

Do they have to be shooting at the schools competitions?
ie, Darren Daly - He is in school but does not compete at those competitions.

If he did compete he will probably win as he can easliy shoot a 550 on a 40cm target.

Could run it like a golf competition, in golf clubs junior members who have a handicap below a 16 can play in adult competitions but can't claim prizes so if we set a standard to be above then those in schools could shoot but couldn't claim prizes and also if they aren't in college they can't claim prizes anyway. Definitly our rules this time!!(was a bit embarassing last time).

Last time some of the archers shot on a 60cm face even when they were well capable of shooting a 40cm face. That was one of the reasons they won. If they shot the same face they might still have won but it would have been fairer

The Schools 'vs' Colleges last year wasn't quite as good as it could be, most people didn't even notice it happened really. I mentioned afterwards and suggest again a different format.

    All shoot as normal
Top 5 scoreres from both teams are got.
Then have 5 one-on-one matches(12 arrows, or maybe 18 depending on time), each match is worth 1 point.

5th Place School 'vs' 5th Place College
4th Place School 'vs' 4th Place College
3rd Place School 'vs' 3rd Place College
2nd Place School 'vs' 2nd Place College
1st Place School 'vs' 1st Place College

Perhaps have all 5 matches go at the one time, so all count for something, otherwise if you have them 1 at a time, one side might win the first 3. But then having them 1 at a time adds to the show.

Any way its good to see you back... So your finished in Maynooth! What next?

If the scores of two of the schools archers at the Irish open are something to go by, we college folk are in trouble...

James Ryan and Darren Daly came second and third resp. in the Irish Open Team Event, with James gettin Archer of the Tournament.

It's great that this was finally brought up but just one thing. I totally understand why guests or juniors cant claim prizes at intervarsity competitions but at these once off competitions why is it that if a secondary student wins they get chocolate. Sorry but it's a little demeaning to us,:( I mean fair enough if you don't agree but why not make it even for everyone this year and begin something new.

i think the chocolates last year were becasue the competition organisers hadn't realised they needed to get more medals for the Schools'vs'Colleges winners. If i remember right i gave Vicky money to get something during the break, so we'd have something to give, and she returned with chocolates, given the short notice i got (half way though the competition) ye should be very appreciative of your chocolates :P

hmmm, wonder if i ever got paid back for that, probably did, never mind :P

But ya seriously now, whoever is hosting the School'vs'Colleges should really get 5 medals for the winners, (i would suggest 5 for the losing side also) and a shield/cup/plaque thingy. Add the cost to the end of season medal costs or something.

Is there a set competition for this yet? I Don't mind having it at the Carlow shoot. And as our prizes are sponsored by the SU I could get some nice shiney stuff to keep the schools shooters happy. That's IF they win anything :p

Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, I did't realise you just didn't have enough medals. The chocolate is great and all but it's nice to be treated like the rest of you guys.:)
