May I ask what age you are? also.. Do you have a photography degree, or is it a hobbie?

not a bad set of photos... nothing awe inspiring, but not bad. I'd like to see more before I form a better opinion

OK, How about your equipment? What does it consist of?

I'm not trying to look down on your work, and I don't doubt your ability, but I don't see how you stand out that would make me want to pay for your services. You should be selling your work to the customer, what is it about you that would make me want to choose you as the photographer for the job.

So far I'm not convinced, but please invert that.

    Hi Jennie,
I know you're not looking for a critique, but I'd just like to suggest going easy on the selective desaturation. Those railroad pics are nice, though :)

Why does it matter if she has a degree in photography? Qualifications in photography mean sweet f all! It's one's work. I understand certain courses do help but the best photographers are self taught.

    Shrimp strikes again.
Did u really have to ask all those questions?
I've yet to look at the url he posted above but
I'm sure he can take a good photo unless the pics
are absolute crap (Which I quite doubt).

The above posts were like those morons in the for
sale forum. Somebody selling x for €100.
Some randomer just comming along saying:
"I have one of them, their shít. Oh and I got it for €50 (in a sale)"

Edit: "So far I'm not convinced"
What does it matter if YOUR convinced. Clearly you
take your own pictures and wouldnt be looking for
anybody to take photo's so why bother trying to bring
    this person down?

There is a difference between constructive criticism and bitching... Seems to me that the majority of the comments so far are constructive. I'd agree that it doesn't matter a damn what letters you have after your name or what pieces of paper you have hanging on your wall. I'd be pretty confident in saying that most of the photographers here have little or no 'qualifications'. I've never completed a photography course in my life yet am still able to sell prints and produce the odd decent shot.

However, it's always nice to see some fantastic shots as an example of the photographers work. That's why we have portfolio's. If I was looking for a photographer, I'd like to see a hell of a lot more shots than in the link posted above. If I was going to put my name forward looking for work on a board full of photographers, I'd make damn sure I had a good number of awesome photos to display. I think that's what it boils down to.

I matters because with a college degree comes a certain level of photographic competence, college sets a standard.

The questions I asked were perfectly appropriate.

It seems as if you have a chip on your shoulder.

It is imperative that I am convinced, if the target market aren't convinced then I'm sorry but you will never make a sale. Simple Business.

Just because I take my own photos doesnt mean that I would never employ a photographer, if I found a better photographer for the job then why wouldn't I commission them for the job.

Please show me where I was "trying to bring this person down"...

You really have to revise your logic and think before you write/say anything. When you have, then you can reply, actually you probably wont reply as you will see you're been ridiculous.

    Shrimp:
I'm not having a go at you but I also think you were being a bit negative.

I dont have to revise anything, I still stand 100% on what
I said.Like frobisher said and I agree with him. It was quite
a negative post by you as I feel most of urs in the
    Photography forum are.

Personally I feel you are the one with the chip on your
shoulder and also consider yourself above everybody else.
I'm not saying you do, just what I think and have noticed
    over the past while.

"then you can reply" ^^ again as if u feel you have power.

word to the wise.. if bitching starts, I'll stop it fairly lively

I'm not just didnt think it was his place to be adding those comments.
    Thats it from me :)

It wasnt at all negative, I think you'll even find he said, "Please invert that"

Shrimp asked all appropriate questions, those were all questions I would ask if i was hiring a photographer, and im sure most of the general public would too.

Dont attack Shrimp for stupid things.

I've gotta agree. I've disliked some posts of Shrimps before (I'm sure people have disliked some of mine too - it happens) but I think they're valid. How relevant the are in the end? Who knows. But they're nice to know. Can't say I'm not curious. Of course the images are of the utmost importance but we're not just looking at pretty pictures. We're photographers too. I can't imagine hiring a photographer because I'm nosey/curious to say the least. :)

    Thanks Flipflip and halenger

That's exactly the reaction I was expecting. Not some claim that I think I am above ppl, and that I was putting the work down. I was asking the questions in order to help the OP to sell their service, they need to include that kind of info. The buyer should have little or no questions to ask, as the seller should have everything stated clearly.

Being blunt about it an idiot with a piece of paper is still essentially an idiot. As we go through life we encounter an abundance of idiots with a qualifications. I have found this to true across most professions, photography being no exception.

Ok, thats true but I'd say they are in a very small minority.
