I've got a nice old bike frame I'd like to restore. It has a little rust.

Does anybody know where I can get it blasted and powdercoated, or at the very least powdercoated?

If so how much should I expect to pay.

I'd say you'll end up paying laods. To be honest I wouldn't be bothered but if you really want to then go ahead. I'd say your best bet would be an auto respray shop. There is a guy in Crumlin that does bodywork and restoration and I think he is fully kitted out for spraying. I think there is also that small spray-shop near Eniskerry. I'm 100% sure of that one though. Look in the yellow pages for car spray shops.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to pay about €60-80. I was slightly reluctant to go down the car spray paint route, as I've seen the results on another bike before; the paint was chipping soon after respray. But it could still be alot better than doing it myself with a spray can. I might make enquiries on your tips.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend car sprayers for the reason you mention, spray paint is not as strong or long lasting as powder coating. You'd be better off going to a place that does motorbike frames, I believe there is a custom bike shop up on Dorset St but I don't recall the name - Celtic bikes or similar - would be worth asking where they get their frames done. Another place worth checking is Scooter Island along the quays (south quays west of Capel St bridge) they should know as lots of scooterists have their frame coated.

A quick search turned up this place in Thurles, they say they will do any job no matter how small so worth a ring. I have no connection and no experience with these guys, just found it on the web:
    GleeDee Engineering Ltd.

    Thanks Fergus,

That looks good, I'll post what they say about doing a bike.

Don't know how I missed them on my own search.
