Hi everybody! I have an SG and its great although i'm still useless :) I would like recommendations on pedal(s) to get. I would like to have a Nirvana type sound ie. About a Girl and also something similar to The White Stripes album Elephant. The songs off Elephant I love the sound of are The Air Near My Fingers, Don't know what to do with myself and Black Math although I love the whole album.
All of the songs mentioned have the same type of sound. If you know anyone of them then you know what i'm banging on about. Maybe it's a stupid question but is there something out there to help me get this sound? Don't be afraid to go into detail.
On a side note I am seeing allot about changing pick ups. Do the pick ups make allot of difference to the sound? Thanks for your time.

pickups are a huge part of the sound but not as much in the sound your looking for compared to a very vintage or metal feel. There are plenty of great grunge pedals out there but your usually safe enough with boss or rat. Check them out

gibsons pickups are bloody excellent!(good enough for me:p )

just try as many pedals as you can...

take YOUR guitar into the guitar shop and try everything you can!

stompboxes are probably the way you'll end up going!

But if you can't find that sound you have in your head then just keep looking!!

    i still am!;)

Gibson pickups are good, but if its an epiphone, they have some terrible pickups.
A friend has an epiphone sg special, and its terrible. Really really unplayable.

Like Doc_Savage says, take your guitar into a shop and try out some stuff there.

i think the likes of podxt live is the way forward in that sense. Exactly the same quality as stomp boxes and more selection and a heck of a lot cheaper

It's an Epiphone G400. I checked them out before I bought. It's the best model I could of got exculding the Tony Iommi (or whatever the hell). I'm happy with it but i'm sure I will upgrade the pick ups in the future. I saw a cheap digitech grunge pedal somewhere that looked ok but then again its the sound that matters. Thanks for the advice.

Cobain used a "Small Clone" pedal. The Might Suit You.
