brasil are the obvious choice but its italy for me otherwise 8/1

solid defense midfield and attack. maybe not consistant in recent years but i realy think they have a chance.

thinking of putting 500 euro on them.just to keep it interesting

On current form Italy are the best team in Europe. Its between them and Brazil.

Socceroos all the way for me too...

Mexico are a brilliant each way bet. They look a very good side to me.

Cant see past Italy, Brazil or Holland to win it for me though.

I think some one like Croatia or Ukraine could do some damage and be surprise semi-finalists.

England of course fancy them selves, I think they could knock out another contender. They seem to struggle to be greater than the sum of their parts and may not have the mental strength to win it.

Germans & Brazil always to be fancied. I'll be cheering for the Italians though, forza azzurri!

unlikely team this year > poland.

    Spain's a good call too.

    Unlikely team: Japan.

Portugal for me and I find it amazing that nobody seems to be mentioning them at all

I'm putting my money on En-Ger-Land. I just know they're going to do it.

No one outside of Brazil, Argentina, England, Italy, Holland, Portugal will have a chance.

LOL england to win the world cup, you must be off your rocker. They dont stand a chance! Theres almost too much talent in the squad, but as a team they dont and wont do it. They'll get out of the group and thats it. jebus if they did it, it would be great.. but sadly as a team they're really really bad.

I'm actually looking forward to hearing what tunes are brought out for the world cup, cause thats what they're good at world champions at world cup songs.

Italy were superb in that match and I just think they're a quality team. Maybe not "current form" then but they are, imo, the best team in Europe.
    If they're lucky. :)

A south american team has never won the world cup on European soil, I think England have an excellent chance of winning it. Despite the fact that if that happens we will be hearing about it for the next 40 years I would still like to see them do it.

what are spains chances? i know they struggeld in their group but a team which contains luque, torres, raul, reyes, joaquin, cassilles and many more have a great chance. i would think spain have a better chance then portugal and they have a group they could easily top. holland look good but like spain lots of potential and never a pay off, plus they're group looks tough with S&M, Argentina & Ivory Coast as a potential banana skin.

Holland are a decent bet imo, Ruud for top scorer wihout a doubt.

England can win it if they play a 4-5-1, if they are lucky Owen will stay injured. With Gerrard Lampard and Rooney in a team, you will definally score at least one a game. Especially with Beckham and random left winger, probably Cole, playing as well.
    With a back 4 of
    Neville-Rio-Terry-Cole
with say King or Jenas or Carrick in front of them, I think they have the best defense of the tourney.

    Brazil though obvious favorites.

    Brazil in Sweden in 1958???

That said I agree with where you are coming from, teams from foreign continents rarely win abroad, so I think it's between Italy and Holland.

Italy are who i'd like to win. Holland i think have the best chance(apart from Brazil)

Sneaky possibility: Sweden!! Ibra, Larsson, Ljundberg...could sneak it with their attack!

England probably have one of the strongest squads in the world, great depth for nearly every position. Sven has yet to mould them into a team though. Still, they have the quality to go all the way.

Tony Adams is calling for Joey Barton to be called up - he could be the answer to the holding midfield problem.

Spain are similar to England, I guess. Great players, but don't seem to have got it together.

Holland and Italy are looking the best from Europe, and either could do it. Don't think Portugal have the quality to get through a run of tough games.

Does nobody rate Argentina's chances? They've as good a team as any, in my opinion.

Cheers I had forgotten about them.:o

I think you can't look past Germany....hosts are always a good bet.
Next to them, I think England have a great chance...best chance they'll have for another 40yrs. Holland. Brazil. Argentina.
    Spain are my dark horses.

I put money on Rooney yesterday to be top scorer at 18-1. Fantastic odds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭Villain

    Some odds:
    Brazil 4.00
    Germany 7.50
    England 7.50
    Argentina 9.00
    Add France 10.00
    Italy 11.00
    Holland 13.00
    Spain 15.00
    Portugal 17.00
    Czech Republic 21.00
    Mexico 34.00
    Sweden 41.00

I'm definitely going to stick a few quid on Holland @13's, Spain aren't bad either at 15's.

It's Argentina for me, with Barcelona's Messi being the star of the tournament

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭Hippo

Germany quite poor at the moment, so despite being hosts definitely not. Spain always choke. Ditto Portugal. Italy will go far, as will Engerland, it's the best team I can remember them producing in ages.
But Brazil SHOULD win it, so much talent. And I know South American teams never win in Europe (except for '58), but times have changed and virtually all of their squad plays in Europe already......

I think Brazil or Germany will win it, also the usuals have a chance: France, Argentina, Italy, England, I'd say Holland & portugal will also have a good run

Spain: Provincial differences will stop a talented spanish side as usual
Suprise Team: Ukraine, had good qualifying form and if Shevchenko is fit then they'll do well
Players of tournament: Ronaldinho, Messi, Adriano, Rooney(If he can handle all the crap he'll get from his man markers)
    Top Scorer: Adriano
