At the end of the year my girlfriend and I will be moving to Canada for a year or so to work. Now in my work there shouldn't be any problem with needing French, but my girlfriend is a graphic designer and is worried about it since she'll probably have to deal with clients etc.

Has anyone here worked in graphic design or a similar job in Montreal or Quebec? She has leaving cert French which will get her so far, but are they looking for fluent speakers only does anyone know?

She should be grand. Several friends of mine lived and worked in Montreal for years without a lick of French. The government also offers free French classes. Montreal's a gorgeous city - you should have a great time. I think the split is about 50/50 Anglophones / Francophones in Montreal.

Worst case scenario, she becomes a lady of leisure swanning around the cafes and bars of Montreal all day while you bring home the bacon.

Heheheh... well let's call that plan B so!
Thanks for that, that's good to know about the job. I'd say we'll probably both end up in French classes anyway, but we're just a bit worried about the beginning.
