I'm gonna be listing an expensive item on ebay soon.

I have a Paypal account but dont want to use it for this one as i think their charges are too high.

Was gonna offer bank transfer as an option. is it safe to do so? or is there a better method to offer?

Bank draft - but could be forged.
Cash - get them to meet you at your bank
Western Union - most legitimate users would be suspicious
Bank transfer - If you are dealing with a sole individual you should be ok to give them your bank details for an electronic payment.

I would imagine if it's an expensive item e.g. a car that you would be taling with the buyer on the phone so you should be able to scope them out.

Decide on one method of payment and stick with it. Beware if the buyer tries to deviate from it when paying.

If it's an expensive item... really expensive ... paypal has some 30day reclaim facility or something on payments. They claim they didn't get it and you're screwed outta the product. I've heard others saying they've had problems with it.

Thanks for the replies. Ive heard about the Paypal reclaim thing before. sounds dead dodgey and another good reason to avoid that method.

was thinking about asking for a Bankers draft or Postal/Money order. Then wait til it clears before sending. That should be safe shouldn't it?

Bank drafts can bounce/be found to be conterfeit MONTHS after you've cashed them, the bank will just take the money back off you. Be careful.

drafts are not what they were, there are genuine (but stolen) AIB drafts out there and some forgeries too , BoI drafts I heard .

ca$h is what i would go for or an IBAN (from the EU) straight into your bank account .
