Sorry if this is in the wrong place but does anyone know how much it would cost to clear a 1978 MGB GT 1.8?

Everything is based on the "declared" cost of the car (except for VRT which is decided by the Revenue). By declared, I mean the amount stated on the invoice given to you by the vendor, and/or shipping insurance value if applicable.

I don't think actual customs & excise is more than a few percent (anyone?). VRT would be 25%, and assuming the car is coming from the EU, VAT would be nil.

    Hope this helps.

I'd say that's what the VRT is. Cars imported from within the EU are not subject to import duty or VAT. Instead they pay VRT. If the car was older than 30 years, the VRT is fixed at €50.
