Since I'm coming to DCU to study Journalism, I figured I'd get involved with the paper, The College View.

Can anyone tell me anything about the paper? How it's run? Are the people all right?

    Thanks everyone.

Yes, I did a search. I did a keyword search in the "Search" section and got a lot of stuff. I didn't find this. Thanks for the link, though.

it's run by a group of students. there's sub editors for each of the sections and people join the Publications Society and then write articles. there's also input from the clubs in dcu who write articles on matches and whatnot and they're sometimes printed. i think theres 3 issues per semester. and an end of semester review called "flashback". the people who run it are a decent enough bunch and they're always looking for more help!

I'm not in the society or in anyway involved in the society - so sorry i can't give ya any more info.

I'm involved in Publications Soc and write (regularly enough) for the College View and Flashback.

If ya wanna get involved in The College View, attend the meetings (when they happen - which will happen after you've arrived, don't worry) and, perhaps, send them an e-mail beforehand? thecollegeview@ gmail. and the editor at: cathal.mcmahon5@mail.dcu.ie . The e-mail address for Flashback is flashbackdcu@ gmail.com - the editors name is Kevin, great guy, superb editor and someone you'll love to write for, I'm sure.

Hope that helps! If you need anything else, it's noel.rock2@mail.dcu.ie

I actually exchanged e-mails with Alan, the arts editor for the paper. I was told that I should be able to come in and start working. I plan on attending meetings and getting to know people in the department.

Didn't see you at the meeting today Ben - did ya end up going? Met another exchange student, but it was an Austrian girl so I think - *think* - it wasn't you.

I wanted to go but I had to be in the city at 3pm for a class. I would like to meet with someone from the paper though, just to introduce myself and all that. Anyone I should look out for in particular?

Well the easiest one to spot (and this is no insult!) is Alan - he has black curly (really really curly) hair, it's rather adorable. He's the arts editor. You'll find him generally either in the Henry Grattan or Clubs & Socs office.

Sorry you couldn't make it today - it really would've given you a good idea of how the paper works.

I really wish I could have. If the class weren't absoultely mandatory, I would have skipped out on it.

If you're able to, you should hop on AIM so we can chat a bit. I added your name, mine is Kozos Waltz.

College View practically live in the clubs and societies office on the first floor of the Hub when they are getting the paper ready for collating, perhaps you could drop up there. They are there most evenings. Just go in and ask if there is anyone around from college view and anyone who's there will help you.
