Just wanted to know if there was any priests you thought were particularly outsatnding or deserved a bit more recognition for their good work. With all the negative press priests are getting lately i thought it would be nice to show how we appreciate when priests do a good job.

    My two nominations would be
Fr gerry, head of the augustinians in Limerick. He is out at the shannon protests every week, has started a ethinic diverse band which are now gigging around limerick, has the church in Limerick done up great every week with intresting prayers to read etc,he has set up a walk in counseeling service in the heart of limerick city.

Fr shannon in moyne,co longford. He is young, good looking, great craic and the nicest man you'd ever meet. He is so good to all the kids in the local school and its great to see such a handsome, fun man with such great faith. To me him and fr gerry are what the rc church should be about, and are the future of of our church here in Ireland.Positive priests out helping in their local communities.

I can honestly only remember one really inspiring priest, from when I was a kid. He used to come and play songs for us in school, but last I heard he gave up the priesthood and all that. Which sucks. Some of the priests from the school I went to were cool guys, but nothing spectacularly commendable.
I don't really see much of priests outside of mass, TBH. How did you come to know these priests?
Lol, I like the way you're commending Fr Shannon for being so handsome.

I agree though, priests in general unfairly get a bad rep, and people need to stand up and commend the good ones.

My parish priest in Milford (Limerick), Fr. John Campion, is very cool! My friend got married last June and he was the best craic at the reception - spent half the night dancing with him! But seriously my grandfather died 2 years ago, and he has been so good to my grandmother and the rest of the family since. And he is the same with all the parishoners (sp?).

Apart from that I would also say Fr. Eamonn in the Pastrol Centre in Limerick, who is brilliant for getting young people involved in the Church, especially with organising trips to Lourdes, Retreats, etc.

No offense intended, but when I hear the phrase "cool priests", there's only one I can think of:

My aunt (a nun) got awarded an OBE by the Queen for her career work in the UK.

That'd be cool to wear at parties!

true-shouldnt have left out the sisters. The nun in mary Imaccualate in Limerick,sr O'Conner, has done huge amounts for fair trade in the city.
I wish the good priests/nuns just got as much recognition as the bad ones but as we know journalists prey on human suffering
