Java updates question...

Just poking around in my installed program list doing some tidying up and noticed that I now have 4 different updates of the J2SE plus the original runtime environment app...
Now each of these updates is about 120mb...the thing is does my PC really need each update? Should one not overwrite the last revision as it installs?
Is it safe to remove older revisions or does the OS need them still?

You should remove the older ones before you installed the new ones. They dont like to leave "platform transform".

You only need the newest one Jre 1.50

Yeah make sure 1.4 goes or when you try remove it later some files it has are used by 1.5 and it wont let you.
