    ...a CDRW/DVD-ROM combi drive for an oldish Toshiba Satellite? My sister's Toshiba laptop's drive seems to be knackered - not reading DVD's or CDRW's at all, and pretty fussy with CD-R's. The machine in question is a Satellite S1900-102. If anyone knows where I could pick up a new or used drive for this, I'd appreciate it. I've had a look on ebay but can't find one to suit this particular model. Even a DVD-ROM-only drive to suit it would probably be acceptable.

    Edit: As far as I can tell, the model number of the drive is SD-R2412. I've found a couple on ebay but all of them seem to be suffering from the same problem. Anyone know if some other drive will work with this?

    It needs DVD more than CD recording abilities, unfortunately.

    I may know of one or two floating about in my old workplace stephen but i'm on nights atm so it will be around wednesday before im awake at a time that would be good to ask. I'll also take a look around in my me bin o' tech at home and let you know

    I think I have it fixed - it is at least playing DVD's now anyway. Firmware flash did the trick (after about 5 attempts with different firmware versions - this drive was used on a shedload of different laptops).
