Hi, Im not too aware of the real world implications of ram timings and I was wondering if it would be better to get 2Gb (2x1gig) of ram with 3,3,3,8

    See here

    Or 1Gb (2x512) of 2,2,2,5 ram

    See here

Im not mad about overclocking, Im only interested in playing the latest games at the highest detail settings. This will be going in a top 7800Gt AMD rig.

    1 gig 2-2-2-5:)

2 gigs is not needed yet and 3-3-3-8 is reall bad timings for ddr400

Unless you're doing some seriously RAM heavy work that will put you into swap then the 1Gb kit at 2,2,2,5,1T will definitely be the better way to go. If I remember correctly, AMD64 systems are reasonably sensitive to memory timings and the better RAM should yield a performance increase.

Aye, I think I hear something along those lines once.

    Thanks lads!

Not actually answering your question, but the difference between CAS3 and CAS2.5 is usually significantly greater than the difference between CAS2.5 and CAS2. Think twice about paying a huge premium for CAS2, but try to avoid CAS3.
