I'm looking to ditch Sky and go NTL as I currently have NTL analogue. Looking at the channel lineup from the NTL website, I don't see Setanta listed as a digital channel, but I'm certain I've seen it on NTL digital in a relatives house.

Can anyone confirm this? Also are some of the UKTV channels not available on NTL like UKTV Style?

Thanks RB, the other 4 channels you've listed - are they all free?

Being a Celtic fan, I like that Setanta is free with NTL (I'd have to pay extra on Sky even with the Sports and Movie pack I have). I'd like it even better if I got the Celtic channel free as well.... :D

I've just checked and Setanta Sports, Sky Sports News, At The Races and Extreme Sports are the only 4 sports channels I can view with the standard NTL Digital package.

    .. snip ..

At least go to Sky News, press interactive and put card in upside down. After interactive loads press backup.

You will than have all the free ITV and BBC on the Sky UK epg. No C4, Five or Sky3.

After you cancel Sky the irish viewing card is still good for Sky3.

Unlike Cable you already own all the Sky gear and can watch the FTA channels indefinately.

And you might mind yourself on eBay searching for "Yellow House" and you might get a card and you might find yourself with C4 and the others too...

Unless you really want some of the channels available on NTL Digital, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to use FTA or FTV seeing as you already have the satellite kit. Bordering on free in fact...

There are no Free channels on cable. A channel is either part of the package or isn't. To suggest otherwise is marketing spin. The number of channels you get with NO susbscription are the free channels.

    With NTL/Chorus this is zero.

It might be true to say that Setanta is cheaper with NTL. (How much is minimum package with NTL that has Setanta?).

The Minimum package for Setanta on Sky is 13 Euro per month for
Setanta Sports, Setanta Sports1, Setanta Sports2, Celtic TV, Rangers TV.

You *might* need a minimum Sky package of 21 Euro a month (29 channels approx). A cancelled Sky card may also work.

Satellite has of course about 20 decent free channels, 200 Rubbish free channels and 70 radio channels, even if you don't subscribe at all.

It all depends on what you want. If I was on NTL broadband + NTL phone and wanted some pay TV I would have the NTL basic Digital package (I wounldn't be interested in the Analog lineup) and just have FTA Satellite.

Since no Cable TV is within about 8km of here and never likely, I use Sky for Pay TV, but probabily cancelling again next month and just have all my FTA cchannels. I've cancelled 3 times before!

    Reconnection takes about 5 minutes.

Setanta is available on the basic analogue service with NTL which costs 20pm for 18 or so channels. Their cheapest digital package which contains Setanta along with Sky Sports News is an extra €5pm and about 50 other digital channels. At the races is added for the €10pm month package which brings the number of channels up to about 100 including radio channels.

They also offer additional boxes for an extra €5pm.
