It's my birthday at the end of this month, and the girlfriend needs present ideas.

I first hinted at a PSP cause i'm a tech/gadget junkie, and that they are cool, but i don't know if I would use it. here's why...

I have a PS2 at home that gets loads of use.
I drive in my car alot, and don't spend a whole lot of time sitting around doing nothing.
If i'm doing nothing at home, I go play the playstation, or go to the pub.

Yes, it would be great if i had the time to play it, but feel that it wouldn't get used.

Can anyone give me good reasons why i should have one? And don't say that their cool, cause I know already.

I found that I didn't use mine at all. It speant about 3 or 4 months gathering dust before I decided to sell it recently.

It is a nice bit of kit... and the screen is lovely on it... if you have no dead pixels that is.

I think the reason I didn't use it much was more down to the types of game available for it... nothing so far has had much interest for me... and there doesn't seem to be anything in the future to interest me either.

Thats the same with me monkey fudge although i have held onto mine as its useful for movies, music etc, and i cannot wait for some of the games coming out, like worms, street fighter, socom, godfather, new gta, mega man, syphon filter, monster hunter.........
so i think this machine will only get better and with 4 and 8 gb sticks coming out that will probably reduce the price of the 2 gb so like it

i sold mine as there were no games that i hadn't finished that interested me. Lovely gadget but i just got too lazy converting my dvds to play on it

if you're into your racing/driving games your sorted because there's some quality titles out there. homebrew is another great aspect if you can get your hands on firmware v2.0 or lower. I thought that i'd use it loads travelling as i am on the bus for about 40 mins both ways each day. Actually use it only for music on the bus, but use it loads at home. as for would you use it, well only you know that.

for a while my psp wasn't being used much but you don't really use it like a normal console. i tend to have a go during college breaks and stuff, rather then go all-out non stop gaming. having said that, i haven't got a game that really hooked me (bar GTA and Burnout).

next year has a good lineup coming

Slightly off the point. But maybe a nintendo DS would be a better option. It's far cheaper than the psp and the games are going for €40 for 2 titles in xtra-vision atm. So it won't bankrupt your girlfriend. Got one there for christmas and i can't stop playing it. It came with the Mario Kart DS game. All for €150. On the other hand. I also have an Xbox which I never play. Lying on your bed playing games just works for me. So I don't know if it would suit you.

my little bro got that bundle. cleared mario kart in 2 days... it's just as good if you emulate the n64 game on your PC... or hell, pull out the n64 from somewhere :)

N64 mario kart is a bit crap. DS mario kart is excellent apart from the N64 levels.

My PSP is gathering dust as well. Haven't bothered with GTA that much, I don't see what all the fuss is about them. Wipeout Pure is a decent game and I'm looking for a copy of Lumines that isn't a rip off. My DS however is getting loads of play.

My PSP is also gathering dust can i REWIND back to my thread in the GAMES section where i posted asking where people would exactly play their psp and people thought it was silly.
I get the train alot but im not on it long enough to play SOCOM or the likes, im waiting on games such as viewtiful joe, mega man and street fighter, maybe il end up selling it, i havent played it in 2+ months. Only game i really played on it was LUMINES, and god,..... they could make that game in flash if they tried.

I only play it in college, between lectures and when I'm in the labs and stuff, I don't use public transport and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable taking my PSP out on a Dublin Bus anyway.

When I get a new game (eg. GTA) I'll play it lots at home first, but at the moment the PSP is permanently in my bag to be taken out whenever I'm in college. When I do take it out I'm not short of things to do though - still haven't completed GTA and usually play it multiplayer, and have lots of emulators too.

I have GTA Pro evo 5. I put my DVDS and music on it and use the internet browsing. Its a good device and you must remember you have invested in a multimedia deivce......next itme yo head abroad, on planes, trains, buses in hotels, lunch breaks the works.

And the expansions coming for it inclusing high quality digital cameras, TV, its going to be the business and ithink anyone who has sold theres is mental. Yes the games are limited but always are with a new device, come march i bet the selection will be epic.

Have you people played any of your games on the net or with a few mates, the laugh =D

I have had mine since the start of the summer. There were times when I just got really bored of it but I'm getting back into it, I guess it's one of those things you just pick up and put down.

I agree with Franky Boy. The PSP is a gadget with reusable value.

I've been playing Lumines all over again for the past month, and Guilty Gear XX is well worth the free shipping from Lik-Sang and probably my favourite PSP game.

Next year there are two games that break the mould...

Roco Loco for platformers and puzzle peeps

Every Extend Extra - Lumines^3 - I've been playing the PC version for about 6 or 7 months straight. Incredible game premise, spectacular execution... will be another Lumines without doubt.

What is most annoying is that most games are designed as home system games rather than handheld games. The worst offender in GTA. When you fail a mission you have get to the mission start again and watch or skip the cutscene again, either way you have to put up with the long loading times. It's absolute madness and the game would be infinitely better if it had restart points like in Gun. The devs really should stop being lazy and look at why the best DS games or lumines and racing games on the PSP are the most enjoyable handheld games. They seem to be ignoring the 'portable' or the PSP title.

in europe yes, but its the new wave of entertainment.......with the quality of the system i dont think its worth selling a great piece of hardware like this.

To the op, sounds like you dont want/need one. I got mine a good few months ago and the games on sale are boring. I dont travel much apart from in the car and when im at home I just play on the ps2 etc. The games are hard to play with the analoge nub on the psp compared to the ps2 and as has been said the games are not made with portable in mind they are just ps2 games on a psp screen. If you love emulation then the emulators on it are class but nothing you cant find on a pc.

Personally apart from playing emulators I hardly use the psp and just play my ds the games are more interesting and cant be found on the ps2 etc. People are saying that new games will be coming, well its a year old and theres not allot of games out yet and sony seem to be happy just dumping umd movies on the market to compensate. If you want one then wait till some games come out (if they do) that really say killer app, gta isnt that app.
