    Hi All,

I'm trying to copy a movie.avi file from a cd to my hard disk. i'm getting a
File creation error - Data error (cyclic redundancy check) message.

    now...
If i play the movie directly from the cd-rom, the whole thing plays fine
so there's nothing wrong with the cd or the avi file itself. ( i think it maybe down to being a 700meg file)

I've tried to xcopy with the /C (to ignore errors) but it gives the same error
I've tried to open in ms media player and SAVE AS...c:\movie.avi....same error
I've tried dragging and dropping from explorer..same error

does anybody know of a utility that might help get around this problem???

    cheers,
    db

Haha. I don't believe this. I was just trying to copy (backup) DonnieBrasco.avi and I got the same thing about 10 mins ago. Honest. No BS.

What is the answer? I have one or two other backups I must do soon.

I don;t have the answer for this but I had that same error message once or twice when trying to copy large files ONTO cd as opposed to from CD. The only way I managed it was to lower the copy speed to the lowest. Don't know hoe this would apply the other way around though.

After about 5 seconds of searching...

I wonder what else is there for this common-as-muck error?

whatever ye do, don't ever buy those pc-line cd's from pc world....they're terrible. If the disk gets wet or scratched the reflective part of the disk just starts pealing away, so that you can actually see straight through the disk. On a couple of occasions a finger print that was left a few months ago actually eroded into the silver reflective coating on the disk also.

    Fair enough.
I was dumb enough to search for "cyclic redundancy check".
    Will I never learn? :D
