    Hi there.

I've been to Delhi and Bombay and I would recommend the former over the latter especially if you only have a few days. They are both sprawling, shocking, filthy, manic, hectic metropolises, but Delhi is a far older city and has many more interesting tourist sites. Bombay will also be incredibly hot in April; Delhi less so.

If you go to either city, I recommend you try to escape the tourist bazaars, if even for a day. Take a short train ride somewhere - travelling by train in India is a memorable experience and is a good way to meet interesting middle-class locals. If you had slightly longer than 3-4 days I would suggest going to Jaipur or Agra, but it's not really worth it with the time you have.

    Have fun, whatever you decide.

    thanks for advice punyhuman,

will probably go to Delhi...and I'm going to do my best to fit a train trip in to Agra to see the taj mahal..it's only 2 hours away I think..

    cheers.

Two hours if you're lucky; Indian trains stop for hours for no good reason. At least you won't want for a cup of tea, though.

Despite the fact that Agra is a stressful dump, it's well worth a visit for the Taj which is as marvellous as you might hope. Tips:

    * Do not allow the rickshaw wallahs to bring you to a 'marble' showroom en route to the Taj. It's all (vastly) overpriced soapstone
    * Go as early as possible to avoid the crowds
    * Fill up on food beforehand as there's none available inside the Taj complex
    * There's a vicious lintel thing at the bottom of the (only) doorway that you can murder your toes on if you're not careful

    Enjoy

Ditto on the Taj Mahal - you should definitely try and fit it in....and as mentioned above, go early - we went in the late afternoon and wished I had more time to just hang out in the gardens, meet Indian tourists and pose for their photos (you'll find out!). It is the one of the few global landmarks that I've been to that actually surpasses expectations and the only one that has left a lasting impression

Another stop you might do is Jaipur....and definitley travelling by train is the best experience - second class if for less than 6 hours but first class if for any more....
