Refund of Tax on accommodation in NYC?

I know there's a similar thread here on getting tax refunds on purchases in NYC and it looks pretty impossible to do so but can you get a refund on the sales tax when paying for your accommodation/hotel?

I seems a bit unfair that we refund the tax to the yanks when they come here. I'm searching for accommodation and it's bloody annoying me that when I find a place to stay, the price looks OK, but as I go thru the booking, the sales tax gets added making the price look a bit unreasonable

    Cheers

I've never heard of foreigners or yanks being able to get refunds on accomadation VAT here.

I very much doubt its possible the other way round either.

I'm not sure the 4% or so changes a price from reasonable to unreasonable.

It works out at about 13%! Adding over $100 in most cases!! I rather put that behind a bar somewhere, than the U.S coffers!!

The only way to get the tax back is if you are staying in a gaff for more than 4 weeks. Then you don't pay any tax.

    Cheers Bond!
I wonder could I get them to alter the receipt or get them to write one out for a longer stay?!......although the Yanks are too honest for that sort of shananagins!! ;)
