    how's it going,

a company i'm working for has gotten in a new accounts system (Sage line 50 if it makes odds) and i was asked to update the accounts from their old system. There were 170 accounts.

now updating the accounts consisted of
    1. Ringing the account contact and asking for a fax number/e-mail address so i can send out a information sheet for them to fill in (to ensure we had the most up to date information).
    2. faxing and e-mailing that information sheet out to the account holders
    3. getting the replies back from the company and entering in the details and opening balances for each account (as this was done at year end some accounts had outstanding balances).
now the thing is i haven't a clue what i should be charging as i'm a student and have never done this sort of work before.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you've already done the job so it should be easier to work out. If I were you I would calculate the number of hours you have spent working on this task and multiply this by what you consider a reasonable hourly rate. At the end of the day you are giving them your time. Add any expenses that you have personally incurred.

Once you come up with a number from this then it's really a case of deciding whether this is the correct amount to charge. That really depends on the situation.

Time and materials. Rememeber that you will be taxed, so make sure you pay yourself a reasonable amount.
