There is an office just out of the city centre which authorises short term teachers. I believe the person is a teacher themselves. Go to the office and ask for the name, they'll sort you out. Just write back and send the CV too.

    Hi There,

I am also interested in looking for some subbing work in primary schools around galway.

I wonder would anyone be able to tell me the name of that office in galway city that authorises short term teachers as described in the previous post?

Is that the best way to go about looking for subbing positions or can you apply to schools individually?

I'd be very greatful for any info at all...

    Thanks

I found the best thing to do is to call to the school, introduce yourself to the principal and take it from there. I did that at the beginning of this school term and have been subbing every week since! I also posted my CV to many other schools but didn't even get a phone call from them!
A very close friend of mine is a primary school principal and he said what he wants in a sub teacher is someone who makes the effort to call in to meet him in person with a HAND WRITTEN cover letter on their CV! Seemingly this is vital!!
It's also very important to make it clear that you are very flexible and are willing to jump out of bed if you get a phone call at 8am! This is normally the most notice you will get so choose a school very close by, I found this really helped me as I live right beside it!
    Good Luck!

Thats great, thanks a million for the information... it is very useful.

I have a list of schools that i will call into with my cv. Do you think i should make an appointment with the principals or just pop in whenever?

I still find it hard to believe that principals will hire people with no teaching experience whatsoever? is that definitely true?

Well I got it and I have no experience! If u come across as a bubbly, inteligent, mature person then they will give u a go! Esp if u say u need it in order to apply for the training course! make an appointment, that will seem more professional. Although I just dropped in one morning in august before the term started and was meet with a very warm reception! Give it a go and GOOD LUCK!! Its the best job in the world! i leave every day on an absolute high! :D
