    Hey

A friend at works daughter has gotten an ipod and set up itunes on her computer. Everything is fine, she rips her cds, downloads music and has no problems getting them on her ipod.

Shes after buying a laptop and she wants to download all her songs from her ipod to the liberary on her laptop but she couldn't find any option or way of doing so. Her mother (my friend) brought the ipod and laptop into me, i thought there was bound to be a fairly easy way of doing it but i can't find any option to do so, nor can i select her ipods music to copy and paste.

The only way i found was to explore the ipod, uncover hidden files, find the ipod control folder, copy and paste its music folder to the desktop, open itunes and insert folder to liberary.

There has to be something easier than this im missing. Any help would be greatly appriciated, thanks.

The files will be stored in My Documents - My Music - iTunes. Copy these files from the computer where the music is stored and put the folder (iTunes) on to the laptop. Simple.

There is software available to upload from the iPod to a computer but it is pretty useless if you have a biggish collection.

She has no way of linking the laptop to the computer, the computer is quite old and doesn't have any form of network bar TCIP.

Sure i could call out to her house and install a network card, give them a crossover cable and set up a connection but even my way was easier than that :)

It's a 4 gig ipod and shes only filled a gig of it, its not a huge collection. That software you mentioned sounds good (although im fairly astonished theres no built in means of uploading an ipod to your computer with itunes). Any more info?

    Thanks again

I believe that Apple made this difficult as they wish to discourage "stealing" music. Though of course keeping multiple copies of your own music is fine.

I use Winamp with the ml_ipod plugin for WinAmp for all my IPOD needs. This allows you to copy all your music off th IPOD simply by right clicking and selecting "Copy to Hard drive" you can also use PodUtil ( avery small, free app.), a quick Google search should find it.

Both of the above methods put the songs into folders under artist/album names, so are more useful than the method you describe.

    Hope this helps

I did exactly what you're trying to do by downloading a free program called Ephpod.
