I bought these speakers recently but i need an adapter which will fit a DVD player or TV, etc. Basically, they're three headphone connections (Green, Black and Orange) and if i plug the green one in to a headphone socket two of the speakers will work, if i plug the black one in the other two will work, etc...Basically, i'm looking for an adapter that will get the 5 speakers working at the same time. Any suggestions??

Well it's possible, but it'd be a bodge and you won't be getting 5.1 sound. The sound card in the computer that you use has three out puts, Centre, surround and Sub... Hence giving the surround sound. You're dvd player will out put stereo sound, which is then decoded by a surround sound amp (in a normal set of speakers)

So as a result you are missing the decoder in the chain (hence 5:1 cards are more expensive, can you pay for the decoding)

The bodge you can do is to run all the speakers off the two available connections, but that'll sound rubbish. You could have echo, phase error, cancellation, over trebled (tinny) sound, or sound that has a lot of bass.

    I wouldn't advise it.

Right, as I understand it you have 3 sets of stereo headphone jacks coming out of the speaker set, you have no amp, no dvd player but do have a tv?

    What you need:
    * three phono plug to stereo jack adapters.
    plus either:
    * a DVD player with a built in 5.1 decoder (with line out for the 6 channels) (with a built in amp if there is no volume control on the speakers)
    or
    * an amplifier with 5.1 decoder into which you plug the optical/CoAxial Digitial out lead from your DVD player. You could look at something like this connected to a pc or try to find an external decoder like this for a ps2/xbox.

I have one of the latter Jazz decoders and they are very handy. Will be upgrading shortly though.

The speakers he has are active, so they are powered and have volume control. What he needs is a decoder, to decode the output of the dvd/ps2... the last link you posted is what is required.

Can you explain what exactly you mean by "get the 5 speakers working at the same time"? If you have a stereo sound source, then you have 2 speakers (left and right), why on earth would you want the same sound coming from behind as well? Also what sound would you want coming from the 5th (centre) speaker? the left or right or both?

How exactly do your friends sound "at the same time"?

Basically, what i want is to have 5.1 surround sound (5 speakers and the subwoofer). At the moment i can only get 2 of the satellites working at the same time. My buddy can get all of his working together and the sound is amazing. Its not really my stereo that i want to get them working with, more like my digibox. Is this making any sense?

YOU NEED A DOLBY 5.1 DECODER.... then connect the optical out to the input of the amp/decoder. Your mate is just splitting the stero sound to 5 speakers. It'll surround you, but it's not surround sound.

But splitting stereo sound to 5 speakers is going to sound terrible, the dialog is going to be coming from behind your head, and we still haven't established what to do with the center speaker!

Music was meant to be played through 2 speakers.
    Keep it that way.

The centre speaker would be mono.... oh the left/right of the subwoofer speaker. I know it'll sound ****, I'm trying to explain to the original poster what his friend is doing.
