I know the person's name and that its an 085 phone. Is there any way to find out the actual number?
    Thanks.

Private number I assume? Unless you ask someone who knows them, I bloody well hope not.

Hell no! Unless you no his First and Last name and he is listed in the book you aint gonna get that number.

Listed in what? The golden pages/phonebook?

Its a mobile 085 number I am looking for not a landline. Why is it so weird to ask about a directory for mobile numbers? I need to get an urgent message to him.
    Thanks

Oh, misread, its a mobile. If there is a directory for mobiles your still going to need his First and Last name, and then he has to be listed. Not all numbers are listed, most people choose not to list them as you get annoying calls from various marketing surveys ect.

Awh phew. He just text there. Thanks for the replies. But there should be a directory. It would be very very handy. Landlines have it, why not mobiles (of course you'd have to agree).

there are many directories 11850 and 11811 etc

but people have to choose to be listed.

I presume you had rang this person in the past or text them perhaps? In this case you could have rang your service provider and got a listing of the 085 numbers you had contacted. I'm sure by that way you'd have worked out the number.

Anyhow you say you got the number now so no worries.

I hope he agrees to pay the maintenance

There used to be one at the back of the phone book I think. But that was when there wasn't that many mobile phone users here.

is there any way to find out who someone is, if you have their number?

i'm getting blank texts from someone.

Directory for Mobile numbers far too difficult with the amount of unregistered users (of the dodgy kind;) ) and no phone company would bother as there's no money in it for any of them

It would have to be a "government initiative" (those 2 words are contradictory):D

Depending on the phone you have you enter the number, make a call, it's answered, they say hello, you say who's this.

lol :D , there isn't much you can do, for example if you have a house number eg. 01 234567 and you ring 11850 to find out who it is - they'll tell ya to fcek off. Same with mobile numbers I guess. There was a mobile phone directory at one stage cos I remember registering an 087 chip and being asked whether I wanted to be included in said directory.. I, as I'm sure many other people did, said fcek off!

i'd rather know who it is, without them knowing i know.

Ring them with a 5 before their number...maybe they have a mailbox greeting set up.

Thats what withholding caller id is for.

"Hi I'm ringing from 02/Vodafone/etc.., can I confirm some details please..." You have to remember that people give away so much information without question.

    Erm if I remember correctly..

O2 does have a Mobile Phone Directory, that is optional. You used to get a sheet to fill in for registration and one question was "Do you want me to be listed in a public directory" or similar..

Not sure if they still have it, but id say its 11850 from a mobile that gives access?

id rather my personal mobile to be unlisted as i dont like being pestered by people other than i know.
The buisness mobile, well thats a different story, that gets switched off at 7pm :D

If they are sending blank texts then they clearly have nothing interesting to say.

Either ignore them or if they get very annoying with the number of texts then call up your provider and report their number and get it blocked.

Start an sms chain letter requesting the information.

At the end of the sms say 20 babies die if you you don't forward it to a million people.

    Play the waiting game.
