I've been told that the Martin Pipe stable are expecting a very big run from Miss Academy in the Ladroke Hurdle on Saturday, there is supposedly going to be a huge gamble on her. She is currently 10/1 with most of the bookmakers.

She definitely fits the profile for the type of horse the Pipe stable like to run in these big field handicaps, she's young and has very little weight and looks progressive. My memory immediately springs back to the gambles landed on Medison and Celtic Son with a few others early last season.

I've a large punt on Kilbeggan Lad myself in this one. Carberry rode it to a good third place last week in Leopardstown after making a few early mistakes, and it really caught the eye down in Listowel in September winning on the Thursday (where the favourite was Silk Screen) and finishing in second in a further race on the Satruday.

A good ante post price of 16/1 earlier in the week, if it makes the final declarations it'll have a nice weight on.

reckon fenix has an ew chance if it runs
has good course form and will be carrying a light weight, also likes a cut in the ground.
    at 16/1 i'll be throwing a few €€€ ew..
    best of luck to all

interesting that you should mention this MasterK, I was looking through this race at the start of the week and Miss Academy struck me as being the most interesting contender. I'd be interested to find out how strong your info is but I'll be definitely having a play in this. We'll know by tomorrow which one of the Pipe runners that Murphy will be on.

Pipe is coming back into form too so I wouldn't rule him out.

Got the info from a mate who's boss is very well connected in the game, owns a few horses in England and has been spot on with info many times in the past, quite a few of which I've posted up here. As for Murphy, I'd say it would have to be Miss Academy or Not Left Yet, I can't see him even contemplating riding anything else.

Well it's Not Left Yet which is the one I was thinking about...The gamble on the Saturday morning of that Cheltenham meeting was something else and if Murphy were to sit up on Miss Academy on Saturday I think that would everything else we need to know about this race. Pipe is great at winning these peripheral group races (If I can call them that)

I'm just thinking, has anybody any ideas of Murphy's minimum weight, I remember hearing it was around 10-4, Not Yet Left will be going off 10 stone so if I'm right he won't be able to do the weight. I think Tom Malone usually rides the really low weights.

10-4 sounds about right...can't find any rides he's had with less than that. Good thinking Batman.

A big punter that is a regular in my shop has told me that rocket ship is expected to win, however it will not be running in the ladbrokes hurdle but a race earlier on the card so watch out. The same guy expects Arch Rebel to run a big race, not quite a win but a big race.

Edit: the guy's info is probaly not up to scratch because it is not entered in anything but the ladbroke handicap hurdle. Sorry.

Judging by his price on Betfair for the Ladbroke hurdle I doubt rocket ship will be running, he's available at 80/1. He is certainly one to keep an eye on in the near future, he looks to be on a decent handicap mark and considering his much improved win last time should win a decent race soon.

    Hi folks.
My each way money (hopefully at e.w. for five places...) will be going on Handy Money of Alan King. Ran fifth in good handicap at aintree and sixth (from out of the handicap) behind lingo in the greatwood hurdle at cheltenham recently.
had w hutchinson on there but would imagine (not confirmed yet) that stable jockey choc thornton will be up here. got a bit of 25 to 1 yesterday, and hoping i'll get a decent run for my bucks.
    k.

    Final declaration and weights.

Kilbeggan Lad didn't make it. We'll probably see him pop up against Victram next weekend in the Pearse Hurdle.

I think it may be erroneous to say that Kilbeggan Lad didn't make it. He was rated a pound above Pepe Galvez in the original entries and PG is still in the field, so my feeling is that KL just hasn't been entered.

I also see that TJ Murphy is down to ride Not Left Yet, which could be seen as a blow to anyone who had gambled that Miss Academy was the one from the Pipe team.

    k.

No horses were balloted out so anything that doesn't go was not declared. I'm disappointed to see Murphy on Not Yet Left, makes me question the information I was given, especially as he is going to do 10-0 to make the ride.

The fact Miss Academy has no rider makes me think the stable are looking for a jockey from outside the stable to take the ride.

Just to clarify, when I say 'didn't make it', I am not making any assumptions as to the reason why the horse is not in the final declared field, I'm simply saying the horse is not in the final declared field.

apologies ... i was just about to do an Edit when I saw your response. I gathered, on second reading, that you weren't saying that Kilbeggan Lad had been balloted out.

Tom Malone is now taking the ride on Miss Academy, from reading the Racing Post site Murphy had choice of ride and chose Not Left Yet. Interesting to see David Johnson quoted saying he's not sure if Murphy made the right choice.

There seems to be plenty of people fancying Pipe's second string, and I think Nicky Henderson's number two could also run a big race.

I'm not saying Mick Fitzgerald should have picked All Star over Afrad, but I wouldn't be convinced that Afrad will benefit from the drop in trip. At about three times the price, I'm willing to take a chance on All Star, who seems to get on well with his claiming rider.

his run behind Verasi on heavy ground was eye-catching and, with the anticipated better ground in his favour, he seems to have every chance of turning around the form on the revised terms.

In a previous post I outlined my thoughts on Handy Money, so they will be my two each-way wagers against the field tomorrow.

    good luck folks,

    k.

Looking like Not Left Yet is gonna be the pricewise horse too. Would love to have Pipey's number now to have a wee chat with him...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

It's funny how a jockey's decision makes such a difference to prices, Not Left Yet was friendless yesterday in the betting and drifted out to 16/1 on Betfair, now it's in to near 5's. Having backed Miss Academy I'm just hoping that the stable haven't decided that Not Left Yet is the one and that Miss Academy should be saved for another day.

As for having a chat with pipey, you can ring his premium rate phone number to get all the latest info from the stable, the thieving B******d.

Miss Academy really stood out to me and your post just made me more determined to back her...I'm disappointed about Murphy's decision to ride not left yet because that really is one who has a lovely little weight and is definitely better than that mark suggests.

MY TIP IS G LEE's HORSE- it cant be far away.

Interesting to see David Johnson quotes saying that he isn't sure Murphy is on the right one, hope he actually means that and it is not just PR bull. If they are that close the 14/1 currently on Betfair for Miss Academy could be a great value.

yeah, i backed Not Yet Left yesterday at 10/1 for the win just after it was revealed that murphy would ride.. but reading that quote this morning has made me regret it slightly.. although it's still getting plenty of support, into 4/1 now.. should be interesting to watch

Miss Academy and Fenix both E/w for me...

Hopefully one of them gets placed at least (5 places).
    Best of luck all.

fade2black: As a matter of interest, how did you know this was gonna be the pricewise horse @ 10pm on Friday? Do they post it on the racingpost site then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,757 ✭✭✭masterK

To know the pricewise selections usually doesn't take a lot of finding, if you have a look at the Paddy Power site and check the betting for the feature meetings the horses that have moved in the betting are usually the pricewise horses.

Alternatively you can check the Betfair forum, somebody usually posts them up, the Racing Post is available in some parts of the UK from about 9pm on a Friday.

The Ladbroke hurdle proved to be a funny race, the going seemed a lot heavier than was officially described that was backed up by the fact a lot of the fancied runners who were held up in the race struggled to make up the ground.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭keano442

totally agree regards going. definitely NOT good to soft. My selections, placed early saturday morning, were on the understanding that the ground was much better than it had been for the big hurdle at Sandown in december.

but even watching the earlier races it was apparent that the ground was closer to heavy. cup up all over the place, definitely not G to S.

    k.
