GAA Wishes for 2006

Okay lads, this place has been like an old deserted town in a John Wayne western for too long.

Just wondering what people's wishes for the 2006 year are, both realistic and unrealistic.

My realistic wish would be that Cavan gain promotion from Division 2 and have a fairly decent run in the All-Ireland, even if its through the back door like last year. To get a game in Croker, would be immense.

My unrealistic wish is Cavan to hammer Tyrone and Armagh and take Ulster! :)

    realistic: A Leinster for us.

    semi_unrealistic: An All_Ireland Final appearance || a better showing against Tyrone/Armagh

That is pretty much what all Cavan supporters are hoping for this year. Plus to win an Ulster U21 and/or a Minor title. The talent is there, so I can't see why not.

Another for me would be for Shercock to win the Cavan JFC. We have been stuck in this grade for far too long.

Realistic: Dublin to narrow the gap on the big 3, maybe even taking one of them on and beating them instead of drawing and losing the replay by some distance

Unrealistic: Dublin to win the Liam Mc Carthy Cup:D

    Cork for the treble!
Hopefully another improving year in the football for us too.

Realistically I want Wexford to consolidate their Division 1 status in football and put up a good fight in Leinster and also get to the All-Ireland Quarter Final.

In hurling, I hope we can beat Kilkenny in the Leinster Final(or at least have a good game with them), I want us to reach the All-Ireland Semi-Final and have back to back wins and also not to disgrace and embarrass ourselves like we have done for the last few years. I also want us to reach the League Semi-Final. I'm also hoping for the minor hurlers to have some success as we are looking good this year with Liam Dunne, Tom Dempsey and Martin Storey over us.

    Come on the Yellow-Bellies!!
All-Ireland Hurling and Football Champions 2006!!!

cavan to win ulster. i know i'm gonna get laughed off this board but at 25 to 1 with paddy power its worth at least a tenner. put it like this, the 5 best teams in ulster are probably, in this order, tyrone, armagh, derry, donegal, and down. in the last 18 months cavan have beaten donegal, and down, drawn with tyrone, just lost to armagh after playing the entire match with 14 men, drew with derry only to collapse in extra time, and drawn with tyrone. now, i know most of these teams elicted some sort of severe revenge back over the breffni boys at a later stage but in the one off games cavan have shown they can compete with these teams. so why not. 2006, cavan to win ulster. someones eventually going to beat armagh and tyrone. those teams wont be on top forever.

Lets not forget that we beat Armagh by 13 points in the league in 2004. :)

I do not think Cavan to win Ulster is all that ridiculous. They are unfortunate in that two of the big three are in the same province as them though. Any team can beat another if one plays well and the other poorly, but that has to happen twice for someone outside Artmagh and Tyrone to win Ulster, and the best teams do not have that many off days. But if Tyrone and Armagh meet early (not sure of Ulster schedule) and one gets eliminated, then there is a possibility. If on the other they are on opposite sides of the draw, it will be tough for anyone else to win Ulster.

Armagh and Tyrone will only meet the Ulster final, if they make it that far. It has been the same for the last three years, it is a joke.

Yes, good selective draw by the Ulster council the last few years, ensuring they can get an Ulster final in Croker again and fill their coffers.

I think that Mayo u21s have a very good chance, either Mayo or Galway for the u21 crown. I have family connections with the trainers of both teams so I have to stay neutral! Though I do hope that the appointment of Mickey Moran as the new Mayo manager will have some impact as opposed to that arrogant sonofabitch who was managing them before!

    My dreams for 2006:
Newtown to win the all-Ireland beating James Stephens by just one point
Cork to do the treble, beating Kilkenny by a goal, scored by Neil Ronan
Cork footballers to beat Kerry, even if we play them before the final adn lose the final, I just want to beat Kerry and shut the hoors up!!

    All realistic in my opinion!

Is that your optimistic wish? ;)

Realistic Wish: Galway win the hurling All-Ireland at Senior, Minor and U-21. (Maybe being a bit over-optimistc here).

Un-realistic Wish: Westmeath to make it to the Leinster Final (Hurling) against Dublin. Need new teams on the scene there. Either one to win, I wouldn't really care - it would enhance hurling's profile in these 2 counties.

As a major Dubs fan I hope we can regain leinster and go on to take on the Nordern lot and the boys from Kerry,I think Pillor is the man and Mossy should start doing it more in croker so with a masive support I think even the Culchies would not mind Atha cliath Doing well this year.:D

On the other front john Bailey is gone which is great but are hurlers will struggle with out C Geaney so lets see where on the up in Hurling.

To see Kildare NOT make a show of themselves.

(im undecided whether this is realistic or unrealistic)

Realistic Wish: Waterford to finally end the 47 year famine and capture an All Ireland title, beating Kilkenny in the semis and Cork in the final.

Unrealistic Wish: The Waterford footballers to win just 1 Championship match!

Semi-realistic Wish: The Deise hurlers to play just 1 match where ALL our big players play well at the same time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,219 ✭✭✭Mossin

Realistic Wish: Laois footballers to win Leinster, and perhaps make an All-Ireland Semi-Final appearance.

The Laois hurlers to improve under Dinny and not lose to someone like Westmeath who were only promoted to contest for Liam this year!!

Unlikely/Unrealistic Wish: Laois footballers to win Sam!

Realistic: Dublin to win Leinster and make the finals of the all ireland

semi realistic: A Dublin-Mayo all ireland final

Unrealistic: Kerry to lose Munster and lose in in the playoffs against a team like Louth,Armagh and Tyrone get beat by a significant score by Cavan,Dublin,Mayo or Laois even and Dublin to win some sort of silverware in hurling

    Laois to win BOTH Leinsters!

    Semi-Realistic: Connaght title

Realistic: 1)Dublin to do reasonably well in the league and use the absense of half their team to discover even one new talent.

    2) Dubs to retain Leinster with a cracker of a match against Meath in the final.

    3) Dubs to get at least to the All Ireland semi-final preferably beating one of the big 3 on the way.

Unrealistic: Tyrone and Armagh to go at it so hard in the Ulster final that all 60 squad members are unable to play for the rest of the championship, allowing Derry to progress who will then be hammered by Dublin before they see off Meath for a second time in the semis and then destroy Kerry in the fifth replay of what will forever be remembered as the greatest All-Ireland final saga of all time. :D
