The missus is looking at going to Cyprus in the summer for 2 weeks. I have never even considered cyprus before, has anyone any suggestions or opinions on what it is like.

To give you an idea . .my ideal holidays are arrive at airport in unknown place, rent a car and get lost for a few weeks. But she is looking for the sun and sand holiday this year, but I will be demented after a day or two if I can't explore or do something.

    Hi,

I was in Cyprus 2 years ago. Flew into Larnaca and stayed in Limassol. Seems to be a lot of Irish there. The weather is pretty good (30+ during the day, 20+ at night). I was there in June. There are plenty of pubs and clubs etc. and lots of restaurants.

Like yourself, I wouldn't be into sitting around sunbathing and doing nothing so we hired a car and checked out some of the sights. Because of it's location, Cyprus has been conquered loads of times so there's a lot of history and things to see. There are UNESCO World Heritage Sites with loads of old architecture etc.

On one of the days, we drove right across Cyprus from Limassol to Paphos and spent a couple of hours going around a Heritage site which was spread out on a hillside. Check out http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/79/ for details of the site.

    Rob
