Not a bargin, but more advise for how to get one needed! I need to get a new telly for the bedroom, nothing fancy a CRT 21" will do nicely and Powercity say "no reasonable price refused" on their (rather terrible looking) website. So, any advise what would be a fair price for some of the tellys ? Sorry, I'm crap at this stuff...

Yeah I was very interested when I saw that ad but do you think that Jo Grunt Working there will have any idea when you show them the ad?

'Eh sorry bud the price is as marked'

    Idiots!

I tried to haggle with the manager in Powercity when I was buying a Sony 32" Vega last year, it came with free dvd player/stand and no amount of haggling or trying to decline the dvd player would make them budge on the price.

Didnt even get a free dvd thrown in but ultimately, it was approx 150 cheaper than anywhere else I'd priced (high street wise!) so am surprised to hear them say 'no reasonable offers' refused!

Young fella picked up a nice looking 21" flatscreen Beko for €150. The sticker price was €159 and yer man marked it down without us even asking! That was Tallaght Power City.

You can bet your ass that your version of "reasonable" is very different from theirs.

If first sales asst doesn't budge on price, try a different one, preferably an older one! Completely depends on who you get and how badly they want the commission.

    It is what it's.

I went in to get a tv the other day, its was 2900 on sale, asked could he match the philips price, and in a matter of 2 seconds i saved 200euro. But i had to go to tallaght to get it, i was in liffey valley, and he gave me another 20euro off for petrol.

If you really wanted to squeeze it, if you pay by Credit Card the retailer pays a commission of up to 5% to the CC company.
So if you paid instead by Laser or cash, you could get them to give you the commission (or part) back otherwise you'll pay by CC and it costs them.
    :o

Commission in alot of places doesnt work on net sales. It works on margin. The more PROFIT you make from a sale, they more money you get. So discount = less margin = less money = not worth your while.

My brother got €100 and a free wall mount on a 26" LG LCD the other day in tallaght, the first sales guy he talked to would only knock €50 off and wouldn't budge after that. He waited until he left and got a different one who gave him the final discount.

went in late on a fri nite about 20 mins b4 clising to get a 32inc widescreen, wanted the stand for free as it was 80 yoyos, he wouldnt budge , said i have cash here, see what u can do , gave me the stand for 20 with the tv, a saving of 60, you should always cheek them for a discount me thinks

I used to work PT in a sony centre a few years back and they did price match. What happened a few times was the ESB and other local electrical stores used to get small amounts of stock and cut the price they never had any in stock but we had to price match everything so look around the small stores and if you see a tv out of stock that was low use that to price against.

Also ask for refurb stuff most places should have some. Got myself a 32" Sony a while back retail was 2000 got it for 800

Anyone else got anything out of Power City on this offer?

Might head down later looking for a new DVD Recorder.

The CC rate a big place like that would pay is very likely to be 2-3% (or even less). The cost of handling your cash (lodgement fees, sorting/counting costs, and associated share of security cost) is very likely to be that or more, so it's probably much of a muchness

Don't think they would give you anything off a DVD Recorder
