Campese all the way, the man could single-handedly turn a game around.

I remember the first time I saw a 15 yr old Lomu play school boy rugby, he was practically the same size then as he is now! Frankly though, too much respect has been shown to him by opposition over the years, as his defensive skills were always lacking and he didn't have a fraction the rugby brain that Campese had.

    Campese......absolute legend!

Campese. Absolute legend, no question about it. I don't think Lomu will ever achieve the same status within the game.

Please don't let this poll lark become a feature of the forum though. It gets a bit boring.

Campese could do it all, lomu was a route one player.

But I have to say Lomu's try against England (would cup 1995 I think) was one I'll never forget, he ran over Cat, Underwood and Carling. One of the best moments ever.

Neither. Serge Blanco was a much better all round player. He was as good an attacker as both of the above and as neither Campese or Lomu could tackle a ham sandwich, Blanco was far superior to both in that regard.
Indeed Campese was one of the worst tacklers I have ever seen on an international side and if he hadn't been on as good a team as the Australians of thw '80's and '90's he would have been laughed off the field for his defensive frailties. I also saw a couple of Australian club games through a mate, and you would not believe the amount of players who would just run through Campese when he tried to tackle them.
In this regard Lomu is almost as bad, he's just more difficult to go over or around. If it hadn't been for Jeff Wilson covering his ass........:D

No point getting into a 'best of all time' type debate. Blanco was great on his day, but could go to sleep for most of a season at times. Please don't start this cos then we'll have to talk about Gibson, Bennett, Edwards and so on and so on! Campese v Lomu? Campese just too flaky to get the vote. Lomu went route one alright, but what a route....

Yeah, I went for Lomu, there's been plenty of intelligent rugby players. How many players can play like they should be another age level up. Lomu in his prime was almost an illegal advantage.

Of course, you're right. I can see now that Lomu was crap all along, silly me. Jeez, if only all those other international defences had been as smart and brave as you and your mates. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure you will, but isn't Carter an out half? And aren't we talking about wingers?

Best description of him I've heard in a long long time.

But I'd have to go with Campese, simply because he was a far more skillful player. Oh, Lomu was far better at what he did (running over people) but Campese did what he did with less of the physical advantage.
