Amazon are okay for books. The rest I can't specifically say.

In order to get HD support you need a TV/Monitor that is marked HD *READY* not just HD Compatible.

Most if not all LCD monitors will run at a maximum resolution of 720p, while true HD is 1080i and upwards

For the moment, it would 'do' as most Xbox 360 games are 720p,and you can set your 360 down to 720 if you do buy a 1080 game......

In the long run, you're better off investing the $$$ in a proper HD Ready TV,Eventually they'll step it up a bit and more Xbox 360 games will be 1080 resolution.......

Philips do a 20 inch HD Ready for around the 720.00 mark......

However the Philips shop on the corner of Dame/Georges St in town is having a 10% off sale at the moment, so you could pick up one for 648.00 or so.,,,,

    Much better investment.

Most if not all LCD monitors will run at a maximum resolution of 720p,

actually LCD monitors run at a variety of resolutions - 720p is a hdtv resolution

not true. in fact in raw resolution terms, 720p is a higher resolution than 1080i (which is 540 lines interpolated)

actually all x360 games are rendered internally at 720p so in fact 720p is the ideal resolution for running xbox360 games

So what is in your opinions the best way to get a HDTV for future television broadcasts that will also cope with anything the 360 can throw at it while also being affordable

Well the 'best way to get a HDTV' is probably to go down to the shops and buy one.

Affordable is a relative term, I just bought a LCD HDTV, and was easily able to afford the price, others might not. I would say and HDTV with a native 720p would be a good bet. There are numerious debates across the net as to weather 720p or 1080i are the better format, and after reading many I have decided that I believe 720p to be superior. It is very likley that future TV broadcasts will be in 720p over here as we have always used a progressive scan with our TV signals, where as in the states interlaced is/was the norm.

It is HD-Ready (has the resolution) and the price looks good. It's got three "HD" inputs (HDMI, Component and VGA), so it's fairly future proof. Also has two SCARTS and one S-VHS, for non-HD inputs.

Looks decent, and not a bad price for a 37' model.
You could save yourself a chunck of money with this, I got one last week from Currys for €1099. Has a pretty good selection of inputs but no HDMI. It has the same resolution as the LG, and so far I have been very impressed with the HD output of this TV, it's like having a second 32' monitor, with regards to the PC input.
    2 x SCART
    1 x S-Video
    1 x RF
    1 x SD RCA
    1 x HD RCA
1 x DVI (with phono jack)
    1 x D-Sub (with phono jack)

Currently have Digital TV, PC, Xbox and Xbox360 connected, using SCART, D-Sub, SCART and HD RCA respectivaly.

I got a Dell 2405FPW 24" widescreen which supports composite, component and svideo and does 720p up to 1080p.....I wonder how this would be with the 360. Just wondering if it will highlight the jaggies in PGR3 in 720p I heard some people complaining about.
