same as the other big hd for psp i assume. you have to strap something that weighs about the same as the psp itself to the back. pointless, IMO

PSP is supposed to stand for Playstation PORTABLE adding a dirty great big hard drive ruins it especially if its one the size of that datel thing.

Don't knock the Datel drive until you try it...

I got one for xmas - and it's brill :D

Comes with a double capacity battery which also sticks out 1cm. IMHO this makes the whole thing much easier to grab hold of (for playing and watching video), while still being very portable - and all for much less than 4x 1Gb MSDPs.

but we're at a stage now where there'll be 4gig msdp's within months, and they can't inflate the price too much because the cost of production is dropping thanks to everyone buying them, and the fact that they have to compete with the backpack yoke datel has

don't suppose you'd have a guesstimate or any info on the price

Be carefull about the 2GB sticks on eBay though, a lot of them are aparently fake and may die after a short period of use or not work at all:

I think the genuine ones are going for around the $600-$700 mark so the ones for $150ish on ebay are way too cheap.

This is going a little OffTopic, as original question was about the 40Gb drive.

Advise you to avoid that baby. Uses the USB port and AFAIK, requires copy to/from the MSDP and back and forth from the USB drive - i.e. big storage but requires you to select what window you want on your MSDP - and since the MSDP doesn't act as cache - requires you to constantly backup to/from the HD.

And back to the Datel drive...

It's all very well for trying to second guess when and if Sandisk/sony will release bigger sticks and reduce prices...

But right now, the choice faced is:
    Do I buy 4x 1Gb Sticks for ~€360 (~same if using 2x 2Gb sticks)
    or
buy the Datel drive for ~€190
    (using Lik-Sang prices)
I know which I'd go for

    IMHO - advantages/disadvantages are:

    Advantages of drive
    1. saves me €170 (can buy 3 more games :D )
    2. Has 4Gb in one package (holds entire series 1 of lost + homebrew) - less need to swap sticks, etc.
    3. Comes with 2x battery which lasts for approx 5-7hrs with drive
    4. As stated previously, I personally find it easier to play now - more to grab hold of .

    Disadvantages
    1. Sticks out 1cm from back - making some cases unusable
    2. adds some additional weight (small if not including battery - but you really need this)
    3. Access is slower

    Advantages of MSDPs
    1. Fast access
    2. Doesn't add anything to PSP dimensions

    Disadvantages
    1. Still need big battery to get over 3/4hr viewing time barrier
    2. requires a lot of swapping
    3. more expensive

And finally - can always get the Datel drive now - sell it on in a year or so when 4Gb MSDP finally arrive and are cheap enough, or Sony cop onto the fact that read-only UMDs are crap and provide retrofits to replace with some suitable sized RW storage (miniDVD-RW anyone?)

what idiot are you, where are you lloking at those sticks for 700 dolalrs? They are clearly for sale in stores for 220 euros.....

And ebay, being that they susually sell stuf cheaper cause they of dolalr conversion, you can buy them for 150 euros......

are you lokced or something, what are you looking at.

There is NO MWMORY stick that costs that region and if so the shop should be bombed, thats the cost of a modern day computer........as matter of fact the pc i helped my mate build costs that price and its the fastest pc on the market practically, and has 300gb storgae, work that out

There are no 4G cards out yet, but that price is one that I saw mentioned in the other thread I posted a link to for the 2G sticks, I'd have to have another read through it to see exactly where people were seeing those prices. I've not seen a 2G anywhere other than listed on eBay yet, and its that those on eBay are thought to be mostly fakes.

Just making people aware of what I saw elsewhere.
