It can be used for Emergancy calls. You just have to tell the 999 operator where you are. They cannot locate you the same way for normal lines

Also, your VoIP won't work if their is a power cut, unless you have your ATA and router hooked up to a UPS.

Which mobile calls are you referring to here : mobile -> mobile, mobile -> landline, landline -> mobile? Everything's possible but depending on what you're looking to achieve each one could be handled differently.

If the business has very large amounts of mobile calls then you can look at attaching GSM gateways to either your taditional PBX or IP PBX so that landline -> mobile calls are terminated as mobile -> mobile calls. You can also use this method to have mobile users terminate calls via VoIP and that can help reduce overall costs too.

On the GSM gateway thing, the Nokia 32 seems to be one of the best ones around, if you have a business account manager in O2/Voda suggest this to them. Especially if its vodaphone, free calls between company mobiles. What your looking for is called a Pro-link line. Connect up to your phone system, have it programmed to dial-out through it when someone dials a 08X number. There is great money to be saved. I know of one place that has 9 pro-links connected to their system (big time users, but also big time savers)

    Regards

    Keith,

Can you explain a little more the setup mentioned above as I do not fully understand it? I am using Blueface over BB and the savings are great but we are getting killed with mobile costs. Is there some way to route these calls over VOIP? What if we go to 3G phones? Excuse the dumb questions,

    Thanks

O2 do something similar. Basically any outgoing mobile calls get sent out over a gsm modem attached to your PABX instead of the normal phone line (or voip connection) = effectively they become mobile to mobile calls. The only problem is there is obviously a limit to how many simultaneous calls that can be made!

Its exactly as jimmycrackcorm says. On your PBX you have trunk positions where you can connect up PSTN lines (normal home phone lines) to. As far as I know there isn't any VOIP company that does extremely cheap mobile calls. Apparently some deregulation needs to be done in this area. The trick is to talk to your account manager in either company, tell them your gonna change company, when they ask you what they can do to make you stay ask about the mobile pro-links.

This is then connected up to your phone system on priority for mobile calls. Watch the saving come in.
