Can anyone answer a query regarding the amount of internet usage required for online gaming.

We are exceeding our monthly cap of 8gb regularly and all I can see it being as a result of the kids gaming!

    Any ideas?

From what I've seen from Day of Defeat/Counter Strike etc. it uses about 3-4kB/s.

If I did this right thats about 1mb every 5 minutes or 12mb for every hour playing games. Thats a very small chunk of your 8gb limit.

    unless you are a heavy gamer 4-5 hours a night x 30 = near enough 2 gigs
but in order to do that you would have to have no life.

They seem to be playing it everyday and coupled with music and video downloads it can easily get to the limit!!

    Thanks for the replies

That looks to be the main problem, not online gaming.

Music and video downloading uses up a lot more of your monthly cap than online games.

As people have pointed out an online game will only just about 5% of your internet connection. Downloading music and video will easily use 100% of it. So an hour downloading videos uses a lot more of your monthly cap than an hour playing games.
